Riding in Australia in spring is a rite of passage, the jacarandas are blossoming, the air is fresh and filled with the most delightful smells.

Imagine this scene, the sun is shining and you’re smiling because you’re out riding… The sound of the birds singing fills your ears and the cool air fills your lungs as you climb your nearest hill. You look around and you’re surrounded by trees, nature, and good energy. A loud crack is heard, and you look back to see the fabled magpie delivering the most intimidating sound a cyclist can hear.

SWOOP was inspired by our love of the magpie, and the terror they reign from above. Our designer Lachie drafted this beauty up when the original Brown Snake Bidon was created for us, and we decided this needed to be a spring delivery for all our friends to enjoy.

Magpies are one of the most intelligent and peaceful birds, however during nesting season they will protect their nests by whatever means they deem necessary. Mind you, I can’t imagine many of us climbing up their tree in a pair of SPD-SL equipped shoes and trying to steal their young…. But that doesn’t stop them from having a go at you as you ride away from their nests. Their song is beautiful, their coat is luscious, but they appear out of nowhere and strike a lifetime of fear into all those who witness them as a child.

Our translucent bottle choice was a subtle choice as you never really see a Magpie coming. A subtle hint to the experience of having a magpie gift you with it’s warcry (or death cry if you ask Matt). Hopefully our magpie friends see themselves on your bidon and know you’re an ally, a friend, someone who looks out for them.
