Piet Van Riet, voormalig gevechtspiloot en boordcommandant bij luchtvaart- maatschappij Sabena, verhaalt in dit boek over zijn belevenissen in de luchtvaart. Een objectieve beschrijving van een 40 jaar durende succesvolle loopbaan, doorspekt met humor en tragedie.

Piet Van Riet werd geboren in Hamme (Vl.) op 10 maart 1931. Op 7-jarige leeftijd verhuisde Piet met het gezin Van Riet naar Dendermonde, waar hij na de plaatselijke stadschool naar het Heilig Maagd (Bisschoppelijk College) overschakelde. In het laatste jaar van de Grieks-Latijnse humaniora moest hij zijn studies stoppen om medische redenen. Om een jaar verplichte militaire dienst te omzeilen, verkoos Piet piloot te worden bij de Belgische luchtmacht. Hij tekende een eerste contract van vijf jaar op 5 maart 1951, onder voorwaarde piloot te worden.

Piet behaalde zijn vleugels in Williams Air Force Base in Arizona op 2 augustus 1952. Na de jachtschool in Luke AFB in Arizona, vervoegde hij de Belgische luchtmacht op de basis van Florennes op 6 november 1952. Hij tekende daar op 1 maart 1954 een tweede contract van een jaar als officier in het toegevoegd kader. Op 28 februari 1955 verliet hij de Belgische luchtmacht.

Op 1 september 1955 startte Piet zijn loopbaan bij Sabena waar hij precies drie jaar later tot boordcommandant benoemd werd. Zijn loopbaan eindigde met de pensioenleeftijd van een verkeersvlieger op 10 maart 1991.

Great for side sleepers
It always seems hard to find the perfect pillow when you’re a side-sleeper. This one is great. It comes compressed so you will want to allow some time for it to fully fluff back up. The cover is soft and smooth. I love that it isn’t overstuffed. It provides gentle support and a lot of comfort. I was worried it may be too warm since it is polyester, but it is very breathable and I have not had any issues with feeling overly warm on it. It fits a standard size pillow case. It’s not overly stuffed like some other pillows I’ve tried that were specifically for side-sleepers. I think this world be a great pillow for any sleeping position, really. I wasn’t expecting to love a pillow this affordable, but it gets the job done and I get a good night of sleep. I’ll be purchasing some more for our guest room.

Incredibly Comfortable and Supportive — My New Favorite Pillow！
I wasn’t expecting to love this pillow as much as I do, but the DIORIS large sleeping pillow really exceeded my expectations. From the first night, I noticed a difference in the way my neck and shoulders felt in the morning—less tension, better alignment, and overall more restful sleep. The fill is just the right balance between plush and supportive. It doesn’t flatten out during the night, which is a problem I’ve had with other pillows, especially those that come overstuffed or too soft. This one holds its shape well but still has that cozy, cloud-like feel when you lay your head on it. I’m a side and back sleeper, and this pillow works beautifully in both positions. It’s also large enough that I don’t feel like I’m falling off it during the night, but not so big that it takes over the whole bed. One suggestion: if you’re picky about loft, you might want to give it a gentle fluff or adjust the fill before your first night. But honestly, I didn’t need to do much—it was pretty much perfect out of the bag. Highly recommended if you're looking for a high-quality, comfortable, and generously sized pillow that supports a great night’s sleep!

Hotel like pillow

Very soft, not firm at all
This pillow is very floppy and not firm at all. It is quite large and I was surprised at the size. My dog has taken a liking to it and decided it's now her new dig bed, which is fine by me, because it's really too soft for my liking. If you like soft pillows then this is for you. If you require something with a bit more support then you won't enjoy this pillow.
