HEART SONG: A Portrait of Aaron Neville
by James Michalopoulos

In 1960, a teenager named Aaron Neville with the voice of an angel joined brother Art in the family music business. Art had a 1954 hit with the Hawketts’ classic, “Mardi Gras Mambo.” Despite this early success, Aaron was working as a longshoreman when Hawkett George Davis came calling in 1965 with a song he co-wrote, "Tell It Like It Is." Getting no takers for the recording from any big label, Davis started Par-lo Records and pressed 2,000 copies of it in late 1966. Aaron’s vocalization went on to own #1 on the R & B chart for a month, #2 on Billboard's Hot 100 for 14 weeks and is #391 on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs. The docks would have to make do without Aaron who earned more gold in 1989 for “Don’t Know Much,” (#2 on the Pop charts) and 1991 with “Everybody Plays the Fool,” a top-10 Pop hit. Aaron Neville’s modulating vibrato tenor falsetto is the greatest instrument born in New Orleans. And he keeps it finely polished, as evidenced by the just-released “My True Story,” his Blue Note album debut produced by Keith Richards and Don Was.

James Michalopoulos’ deeply felt portrait distills Aaron’s twin inspirations: New Orleans and spirituality. The city is fully captured by the artist’s distinguished minimalist architectural elements, a wrought iron fence and gas lampposts. Ethereal doves embody spirits set aflutter by an angelic voice. Trees bow in nature’s embrace, and of course, a yellow moon tops the harmoniously lighted dusk scene. Michalopoulos has created five definitive contributions to this, the world’s most collected poster series (JF98, JF01, JF03, JF06 & JF09) including three of its most valuable. Michalopoulos is a celebrated representational New Orleans artist best known for his spiritually imbued architectural renderings. His vivid pigmentation is fully realized in this silkscreen printing, which applies each color individually to museum standard papers. Michalopoulos exhibits extensively in the art capitals of Europe and the United States. He maintains studios and galleries in Burgundy France and New Orleans.

Very well designed shorts!
Size: 36, Color: Gunmetal
Bought one pair awhile ago, and now buying several more. Great relaxed fit, very comfortable, good fabric weight AND pockets not designed by morons - actually so easy to store and retrieve wallet and phone unlike Dockers and Izod and other cargo shorts I've purchased in the past. So comfortable and well designed. They're cut a little large for the stated size - but not necessarily a bad thing, and waist has a little bit of stretch. Love them!

Once you put them on, you will know you made the right decision
Size: 38, Color: Medium Tint Denim
Absolutely perfect in every way. Staring either the very reasonable price, the true to size fit, and quality. Hip pockets are deep, and can come in handy. Most don’t know that Wrangler actually started in 1904 as a company called Blue Bell, and later renamed Wrangler. Well established and a long history of top quality clothing. Although you may find another company selling for a bit less, that’s what you’ll get……Less !!?

Good shorts but they run big
Size: 38, Color: Dusty Olive
I've been losing weight and picked these up in my new size (38). It turns out these are cut for a generous American midsection, and have an elastic fit in the waist, so you can (and probably should!) safely go down a size. I got mine in 34 instead and they fit great.

Great fit, functional, most comfortable shorts!
Size: 30, Color: Anthracite Camo
These are my go-to shorts, I now have five pair in different camo colors! I suggest one waist size smaller than you normally wear, (I buy a 30 instead of a 32, because they stretch and would be too sloppy if I purchased my regular size). The large open slotted pocket on the left, behind the Velcro flap pocket, is perfect for a normal sized cell phone. Plenty of utility pockets for EDC. Since these stretch slightly to accommodate movement and sitting, they are extremely comfortable. Also, my wife says they are good looking on me, so that gets an extra star!
