Characterised by its highly efficient mobilisation system, superior Krupp artillery, and a well-trained General Staff led by figures like Helmuth von Moltke, this "German Army" was a professional, conscript-based force that utilised railways for rapid deployment and emphasised initiative among its subordinate commanders.
This modern and well-organised military proved to be a decisive factor in its overwhelming victory over the French.
