Rega Brio MK7 Integrated Amplifier at Vinyl Sound Toronto Canada

The Brio MK7 is a stereo integrated amplifier from Rega Research (Southend-on-Sea, England), available at Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada. Now in its seventh generation, the Brio MK7 is the most advanced and feature-packed Brio that Rega Research has ever produced. A completely re-laid circuit, a new onboard Wolfson DAC with two digital inputs, and higher-specification MUSES operational amplifiers combine with a 50W per channel output into 8 ohms and a built-in moving magnet phono stage inside a handmade custom half-width aluminium chassis. The Brio MK7 was named Sound Advice Best Amplifier of 2025 and earned acclaim from What Hi-Fi?, The Ear, and AVForums, confirming its position among the finest integrated amplifiers available at its price level.

A Completely Re-Laid Circuit

Rega's engineering team approached the Brio MK7 as a ground-up redesign of the circuit rather than a simple revision. The PCB layout has been fully upgraded to handle higher specifications across all critical parts. A second raw power supply has been implemented to provide further isolation between the output stage and the driver stage, line amplifiers, and phono amplifier. This improves the separation between high-level and low-level signal stages, reducing interference and lowering the noise floor. Higher-specification MUSES operational amplifiers are used throughout the line, DAC, and phono amplifier sections. The result is THD+Noise of typically 0.005% at 1kHz, a figure that reflects the precision of the circuit architecture. The Brio has long been described as one of the most musically rewarding amplifiers in its class, and the MK7 brings measurably lower distortion and improved isolation to that well-established foundation.

Onboard DAC with Digital Inputs

The Brio MK7 marks the first time a DAC has been integrated into a half-width Rega amplifier. Two digital inputs are provided: an S/PDIF coaxial connection (isolated, 0.5V, 75 ohm) and an S/PDIF optical Toslink connection. Both inputs support PCM at sampling rates of 32, 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4, and 192kHz, making the Brio MK7 fully compatible with CD players, digital streamers, computers, and network audio devices. The decoding hardware is built around a Wolfson WM8742 DAC chip, following the approach taken in Rega's larger Elex and Elicit amplifiers. This addition means the Brio MK7 can serve as the complete analogue and digital hub for a modern hi-fi system without requiring a separate DAC component.

Moving Magnet Phono Stage

The Brio MK7 includes an integrated Rega-designed moving magnet phono stage, evolved from the circuit that has been refined across multiple Brio generations. The MK7 benefits from improved isolation between stages and higher-specification op-amps providing gain for attached cartridges. As Rega Research designs and manufactures its own turntables, tonearms, and cartridges in-house, the phono stage is engineered with a level of seriousness that goes well beyond a convenience feature. It is an excellent match for Rega's own Nd3, Nd5, and Nd7 moving magnet cartridges, as well as third-party MM cartridges from a wide range of manufacturers.

Headphone Output

A headphone socket on the front panel drives standard hi-fi headphones directly from an onboard headphone circuit. Rega designed this circuit specifically to minimise its impact on the main signal path, ensuring that connecting headphones does not compromise the overall sound quality of the amplifier. A dedicated switch deactivates the main speaker outputs when the headphone socket is in use.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Rega Brio MK7?

The Rega Brio MK7 is a handmade stereo integrated amplifier from Rega Research of Southend-on-Sea, England, and the seventh generation of one of the most long-running amplifier lines in British hi-fi. It delivers 50W per channel into 8 ohms and 72W per channel into 4 ohms, includes a built-in Wolfson DAC with two digital inputs, an integrated moving magnet phono stage, and a headphone output, all inside a compact custom half-width aluminium chassis. The MK7 was recognised as the Sound Advice Best Amplifier of 2025 and earned acclaim from What Hi-Fi?, The Ear, and AVForums upon its release in early 2025.

How does the Rega Brio MK7 compare to the Arcam A5 and Cambridge Audio CXA61?

The Brio MK7 competes directly with the Arcam A5 and Cambridge Audio CXA61 at a similar price point. The Brio MK7 distinguishes itself with a fully re-laid circuit, MUSES op-amps throughout, an onboard Wolfson DAC supporting up to 24-bit/192kHz, and three RCA line inputs plus phono — more analogue inputs than several rivals at this level. Where some competitors offer more digital inputs or streaming functionality, the Brio MK7 prioritises circuit quality, musical engagement, and the integration of Rega's decades of phono stage expertise. Independent reviewers at What Hi-Fi? found that initial doubts about its ability to compete at this price category proved unfounded.

Does the Rega Brio MK7 have a DAC built in?

Yes, the Brio MK7 is the first half-width Rega amplifier to include an onboard DAC. It features two digital inputs — one S/PDIF coaxial (isolated, 0.5V, 75 ohm) and one S/PDIF optical Toslink — both supporting PCM sampling rates from 32kHz up to 24-bit/192kHz. The DAC is built around a Wolfson WM8742 chip, the same approach used in Rega's larger Elex and Elicit models. This allows the Brio MK7 to connect directly to CD players, streamers, computers, and network audio devices without requiring a separate external DAC.

Can the Rega Brio MK7 be used with a turntable?

Yes, the Brio MK7 includes an integrated moving magnet phono stage with its own dedicated input, making it a natural pairing for turntables including the Rega Planar 1, Planar 2, Planar 3, and Planar 3 RS Edition. The phono stage has been redesigned for the MK7 with improved isolation between stages and higher-specification MUSES op-amps, and benefits from Rega's extensive experience designing cartridges and turntables in-house. A grounding terminal is also provided on the rear panel.

What is the power output of the Rega Brio MK7 and what speakers will it drive?

The Brio MK7 delivers 50W per channel into 8 ohms and 72W per channel into 4 ohms from its Class AB amplifier stage. This output is sufficient for the vast majority of bookshelf and floorstanding loudspeakers in home listening environments, including demanding 4-ohm designs. Short circuit protection is built in to safeguard the output stage, and it does not sit in the audio signal path, so it does not affect sound quality during normal operation.

Does the Rega Brio MK7 support streaming or Bluetooth?

The Brio MK7 does not include built-in streaming or Bluetooth functionality. It is designed as a high-performance wired amplifier, and streaming can be added by connecting a dedicated streamer such as a WiiM, Naim, or Rega network player to one of its digital or analogue inputs. This approach allows the Brio MK7 to work with any streaming platform or source device without locking users to a specific ecosystem.

Where can I buy the Rega Brio MK7 in Toronto or Canada?

The Rega Brio MK7 is available at Vinyl Sound, an authorised Rega Research dealer located in Toronto, Canada. Vinyl Sound serves customers across the Greater Toronto Area and Canada, offering expert guidance, in-store demonstrations, and full manufacturer support for the complete Rega amplifier and turntable range.

Does the Rega Brio MK7 have auto standby and remote control?

Yes, the Brio MK7 includes both auto standby and a mini system remote control. The auto standby function activates after approximately one hour of no input signal and can be disabled if preferred. The included remote operates the standby and power-on functions and is designed for compatibility with future Rega products in a coordinated mini system setup.

Interesting

So I will say I enjoyed the story, for sure had its moments where it dragged but it was a great story. I really liked that omegas picked their alphas/make the pack. Normally the Alphas make it and the omega fits in with them which is great but I enjoyed this new version where all the power basically went to the omega. It was a nice change of pace. I can admit some of the weird bedroom stuff with her being pregnant was odd, it’s really not hard to do stuff when pregnant (I know I’ve had two and it’s normal and even encouraged at the end especially if you want the baby out). But I like the story as a whole and will read the second, I do hope the next one isn’t dragged bc it stopped being action or tense after she met her alphas and I don’t think it was brought up or properly done when they tried to do it. More sweet after she left.

I’m a little disappointed.
Format: Kindle
I usually like Jillian West’s books but this one was missing a lot for me. The pregnancy didn’t come across as real. She’s on her feet for 12 hour days but is perfectly healthy at 8 months pregnant? Yet the week she moves in all of a sudden she’s not? She is planning on actually running during one of the plot buildups. But at 8 months pregnant that’s incredibly hard to do. The lack of breathing ability and lung space, the change in body center, mass, and gravity. All of it prohibits running, unless you’re an athlete this didn’t come off as at all realistic. I didn’t feel any connection with the alphas. There wasn’t any emotional connection. It could be because of the tense it was written in. But I didn’t get any deep feelings out of this. It came across as checking off boxes. Even the spicy scenes weren’t really believable for me. I wanted to see them fall for her, and it just kind of all fizzled. Even Bishop. One thing I did really like was the ending. I did not see it coming and I’m interested in reading book two because of it. But on the whole this book was mostly disappointing for me.

Vale is an 8 month pregnant omega working as a waitress at a strip club and a cam girl. She starts to get very creepy vibes from a regular at the club, and her baby daddy ghosted her. She has had an online relationship with a man named Bishop through her cam girl status. One night, bishop was paying to watch her sleep and ansthe creepy regular Andrew break in and watch her sleep he tells vale to come to him at his business now. She flees and finds herself at a large security company with some.hot of alphas who are there to help her. This imegaverse is a little different than I have read, but I am thoroughly enjoying it. Vale is not a traditional omega she was raised by a single beta mom, and the alphas are not normal alphas they have never really loved pack life. But they are ruthless mercenaries. They need her, and she needs them. I love the aspect of the stalker and now the plot twists at the end, so so good. Sometimes, it seemed a little slow and stale mated, but since this a duet, I think It was just her starting to have Vale get to know her alpha suitors. Cliffhanger for sure with this one.

That ending 😫
Format: Kindle
I fell into a false sense of security and really thought this was gearing towards a happy ending. Then I realized there’s no work they don’t punish Andrew. I really liked Vale’s character. I don’t normally read books with pregnancy but going into this knowing she was pregnant made it more enjoyable for me. I loved Bishops devotion to her and her happiness. I also loved that Holt and Mercy couldn’t fight their attraction to her. I love scent matches so very much. I’m so curious to see how this duet will end up. And I need to pay more attention and notice that a book I’m starting is a duet to begin with lol
