The Yaesu FT-818ND is a very compact all-mode portable transceiver for all shortwave bands, 6 m, 2 m and 70 cm. The maximum transmit power is 6 watts. It can be reduced to 2.5, 1 and 0.5 watts. The receiver operates continuously from 100 kHz to 56 MHz as a double super and thus enables very good values with regard to sensitivity and large-signal behaviour. With the factory-installed TCXO, the transceiver achieves a frequency stability of ± 0.5 ppm. A mechanical Collins filter can be fitted, which offers maximum selectivity in a power-saving manner. In a further range from 76 to 164 MHz, AM aeronautical radio and FM broadcasting can be received in addition to amateur radio in the 2 m band. The 70 cm reception range from 420 to 470 MHz also goes far beyond the 70 cm amateur radio band. Two channels can be monitored simultaneously (dual watch), 208 memory channels are available in total. The antenna connection on the back of the unit is a PL socket, a BNC socket is mounted on the front. Which output is used can be selected per amateur radio band. An electronic Morse key is integrated into the unit, which is capable of semi-break-in and thus also represents a high-quality portable QRP solution for CW.
