The Sony MZ-E500 is the first iteration of the 5xx series of MiniDisc players (500,501,505,510,and 520). It is dedicated to disc playback, and does not have disc recording functionality.
Released in 2000, it features support for MDLP, 64 different possible treble/bass settings (8 treble and 8 bass) that can be stored as two presets.
It also has 40-second anti-shock protection (160-second protection in LP4 mode).
It weighs 76 grams without a battery or disc installed.
It has a 3.5 mm headphone jack for audio output.
