Fishmans - 空中 (Kuchu) The Best of Fishmans (Vinyl)

空中 (Kuchu) – The Best of Fishmans is one half of the acclaimed twin compilation releases issued in 2005, alongside Uchu (Universe). Curated by drummer Kin-ichi Motegi, these collections were designed to span Fishmans’ catalog across label boundaries, offering a thoughtfully assembled entry point into one of Japan’s most influential cult bands.

While Uchu leans toward the band’s more expansive and atmospheric side, Kuchu (“Aerial”) focuses on their dreamlike, groove-driven material—highlighting the evolution of Fishmans’ signature blend of dub, dream pop, and neo-psychedelia. This era, anchored by albums like Kūchū Camp, represents the group’s transition into the lush, hypnotic sound that would later define their legacy.

This 2LP vinyl reissue (2024) marks the first time these best-of compilations have been pressed on vinyl, released as part of the band’s 30th anniversary celebration. The release has been highly anticipated by collectors, bringing together key tracks selected by the band themselves into a cohesive listening experience that flows like a standalone album rather than a simple compilation.

For both longtime fans and newcomers, Kuchu offers an accessible yet deeply immersive look into Fishmans’ most beloved period—an essential addition for collectors of Japanese vinyl, dream pop, and psychedelic music.

Features:

  • 2LP vinyl reissue (33 RPM)
  • Originally released in 2005, first time on vinyl (2024)
  • Curated by drummer Kin-ichi Motegi
  • Part of the twin “Kuchu / Uchu” best-of series
  • Focuses on Fishmans’ dream pop and dub-influenced era
  • 30th anniversary commemorative release

I think it runs big. Otherwise good. Poor packaging though.
Color: Light Blue, Size: Large
I ordered a Large. I am 5’ 9 1/2”. Fit, 170lbs (athletic/slim build). The Large was noticeably too big. Looked “sloppy”, like it fit once and then I lost a bunch of weight. That said, the material/weight was very nice. This is a nicely made, casual blazer. Will look good with jeans/khakis or dressier pants. REALLY nice for the price (I got it on sale, 50% off ($31.99) though. Maybe a push, or nicer ones for $60/70, but I’d still say a good value. Packaged in a bag as people have mentioned. I’ve returned for a medium & will probably have to take to the dry cleaner immediately to have pressed, but still worth it. UPDATE: returned for a size M. Much better fit for my size. This one was packaged nicer too. Still in a bag, but folded nicely enough to wear right away. I’m planning on buying more colors.

Horrible quality and service
Color: Navy Blue, Size: Medium
The quality of the jacket is horrible. After the jacket was returned unused. The company kept trying to say it was never returned. Was able to provide Amazon with the tracking from UPS showing it was delivered and signed for. Amazon issued the refund. 4 months later now, the company is trying g to charge me again for the jacket. Was able to prove again to Amazon the item was signed for when returned. Amazon is issuing a refund again. Do not trust this company with your credit card. They will continue to try and charge you months later.
