Conceived by Achille Castiglioni and Pio Manzù, Parentesi is a suspension lamp designed in 1970 and produced by Flos the following year. This version includes a dimmer to adjust the light intensity. Extraordinary, essential, bright. The Parentesi lamp by Flos is one of the most emblematic icons of Italian industrial design: it embodies the formal minimalism achieved thanks to a work of subtraction, through a creative process that hunts for simplicity. First conceived by Pio Manzù, who passed away in 1969 before completing the lamp, Parentesi was redrafted by great master Achille Castiglioni. The name of this suspension lamp providing direct light is inspired by a signature metallic rod in the shape of a bracket, “parentesi” in Italian. This choice was not strictly aesthetic, but functional, and its important innovation lies in the possibility of moving the lamp with a simple gesture. Few elements merge to create a perfect lamp, characterised by the vertical movement of the luminous body through the sliding of a shaped tubular steel placed on a steel cable, stretched between the ceiling and the floor. Pio Manzù had initially designed the Parentesi lamp as a cylindrical volume capable of sliding along a rod and stopping at the desired height with a screw. Castiglioni’s Parentesi is the brilliant evolution of this project: functional, made of few elements and free from any superfluous part, the true manifesto of the form = function principle. This astonishing lighting creation won the Compasso d’Oro award in 1979, and today is exhibited at the Triennale Design Museum in Milan. The light intensity of Flos Parentesi with dimmer can be easily adjusted.

ABOUT THE DESIGNERS

Achille Castiglioni was born in Milan in 1918 and showed an early interest in industrial production. Achille went on to study architecture and became interested in the idea of developing a complete design process after graduating in 1944. Achille later joined the design practice founded by his brothers. The studio's designs were instrumental in defining the playful intelligence for which Italian design was known in the latter half of the 20th century. The Castiglioni Brothers were also renowned for their lighting design, most famously for the Arco lamp which is still in production 60 years later. In 1956, Achille was among the founders of the ADI (Association for Industrial Design). Later, in 1969, he was authorised by the Ministry of Education to teach Artistic Design for Industry. He taught at Turin´s Faculty of Architecture until 1980 and then took a fulltime position as Professor of Industrial Design at the Politecnico di Milano until 1993. New York’s Museum of Modern Art owns 14 of his pieces. Other works can be found in important museums around the world.

Pio Manzù, the pseudonym of Pio Manzoni, was born in Bergamo in 1939. He was already a promising design talent when he lost his life in a car accident in 1969, at the age of 30. Nevertheless, his brief but intense career in industrial design left its mark. As the son of the renowned sculptor Giacomo Manzù, he grew up in a context where art, crafts and the alchemy that transforms materials were part of his daily life. In 1960, after his classical studies in Milan, he moved to Ulm, Germany to study industrial design at the Hochschule für Gestaltung. The young Pio immediately distinguished himself for his prodigious talent, winning the international competition organised by Année Automobile magazine in Geneva at the age of 23 with the design of the Austin Healey 3000 car. His continuous research sought to combine technical innovation with formal values in a quest to produce original yet functional and ergonomic vehicles.

Fluffy and Nice Omegaverse
Format: Kindle
… this would have made 5 stars but for 2 reasons. A.) there were quite a few typos; misspelled words, missing quotations, “the his” mistakes, and various signs that maybe a proofread would do good. B.) the writing was quite textbook. Late blooming omega is struggling with her new self, finds a absurdly wealthy pack of alphas, every thing is almost insta-love but she resists, then decides to love herself and let everyone be happy. Rian was my favourite (obviously the author’s favourite too because he got the most page time) but I wish we could see more of his CEO side? He went to work maybe ONCE the entire time. Gray was supposed to be the “growly one” but he turned out to be puppy dog. Lucas was a genius brainiac doctor - but also super alpha with an aggressive hindbrain with a breeding k*nk?? And then there was no actual “breeding”?? Spice 3/5 - normally omegaverse books are super high on messy smut but this was tamer. Romance 3/5 - insta-love that was then resisted because of personal hangup’s Plot 2/5 - weird paced head hopping, showing the same scene from different POV’s that made me feel like it was 2 steps backward, 1 step forward. Humour 4/5 - there were a dozen lines that genuinely made me chuckle out loud Would have been five stars but the lack of proofreading and the predictable plot made me unable to get up to ADORED IT level - four stars is still and official ENJOYED IT, y’all. This isn’t a bad rating. The “Club Heat” has intriguing possibilities so I’m going to give the second one a shot.

Fun with a late blooming omega
Format: Kindle
I like this book. The story is fun, cute, and sexy. There's just a little drama, some excellent, steamy scenes, and a fairly good relationship building storyline. I especially like how all the main characters are a bit older than the usual 20 somethings I tend to see in this kind of book. Having said that, I wish there were more descriptions of the places, as well as the food in the fancy restaurant. I enjoyed the cocktails at the club, so I missed that kind of detail when Gray took Madison on a dinner date. I also wish there had been more interaction between Lucas and Madison, and Lucas and Rian. It felt a bit lopsided, with a focus on Rian, Madison, and Gray. I wish it had been proofread - there are a lot of typos, but nothing too distracting.

Madison Deserved Better
Format: Kindle
Madison was a beta...except she wasn't any longer. She was a late presenting Omega. And she was struggling. She was tall and thin, not tiny and curvy. She was opinionated. She was everything an Omega was not. After suffering through her first heat, her friends took her to Ardor, a club where Omegas came to safely find Alphas. She's not expecting much but then she connects with a sexy beta. And when she meets his Alphas, they set her body on fire. Maybe, she's found her no-strings-attached heat pack. Maybe, she's found something more. I could not connect with the characters in this book, so their story never resonated with me. And there was no love story; there was sex. Grey made it clear from the beginning that he had a true love and it was his beta boy, Rian. He went so far as to reassure Rian “Say the word, I’ll never touch her again. Lucas can put the babies in her. I only need you, beta boy”. So, Madison was there for babies, no emotions needed. Nice. No, thank you. I want the Omega to be the center of their world, not an incubator. Lucas and Rian weren't any better. After her heat, they let her leave. Not one of them made her feel valued. No one gave her a reason to stay or even offered a cuddle. And the sex didn't even come across as mind-blowing. Madison deserved better.
