ConvaTec Visi-Flow Irrigator and Stoma Cone — Controlled Colostomy Irrigation System

See the flow. Control the procedure. Simplify your routine. The ConvaTec Visi-Flow Colostomy Irrigator with Stoma Cone is a patented, feature-rich colostomy irrigation system built around one principle: giving patients visible, tactile control over every step of the procedure. A paddle-wheel flow indicator lets you see fluid moving in real time. A thumb-control regulator gives precise, one-handed flow adjustment. Bold volume graduations on the transparent, top-fill bag make filling and monitoring straightforward. The soft-exterior, resilient-interior stoma cone resists collapse for consistent, comfortable insertion. The full kit (SKU 401989) includes the irrigator and cone. The cone is also available separately for replacement (SKU 022736). FSA/HSA eligible. Rx or professional license required.

Features & Benefits

  • Paddle-Wheel Flow Indicator — Real-Time Visual Confirmation — The Visi-Flow's defining patented feature is a paddle-wheel mechanism visible inside the irrigator bag. As water flows through the system, the paddle wheel spins — giving the patient immediate visual confirmation that fluid is actively moving into the stoma. If flow stops or slows, the paddle wheel stalls, alerting the patient before the issue becomes a problem. No other standard irrigator offers this level of real-time flow feedback.
  • Thumb-Control Regulator — Precise, One-Handed Flow Adjustment — Unlike a basic slide clamp that requires two hands to adjust, the Visi-Flow's thumb-control regulator allows the patient to increase, decrease, or stop water flow with one hand while the other holds the cone in position. This ergonomic advantage matters during a procedure that requires the patient to maintain consistent cone placement throughout.
  • Transparent Top-Fill Bag with Bold Volume Graduations — The clear bag lets patients see exactly how much water they have loaded and monitor the bag as it empties during the procedure. The top-fill design and large, clearly printed volume markings make filling to the prescribed amount straightforward — reducing the guesswork that can lead to inconsistent irrigation volumes from session to session.
  • Soft-Exterior / Resilient-Interior Cone — Comfort Without Compromise — The Visi-Flow stoma cone uses a dual-material construction: a soft outer layer to minimize stoma irritation during insertion and a firm inner core to resist collapse under the pressure of water flow. Many single-material cones collapse during use, disrupting flow and requiring repositioning. The Visi-Flow cone maintains its shape and function throughout the procedure.
  • Compatible with ConvaTec SUR-FIT Natura Systems — For patients already using ConvaTec SUR-FIT Natura two-piece pouching systems, the Visi-Flow irrigator integrates directly with the SUR-FIT flange — simplifying the irrigation sleeve attachment step and ensuring a reliable connection with equipment the patient already has.
  • Reusable — Economical for Regular Use — Both the irrigator bag and the stoma cone are designed for reuse. Cleaned and maintained properly between uses, the kit provides ongoing value compared to single-use products. The cone is also available separately (SKU 022736) when a replacement is needed, so the irrigator bag does not need to be replaced at the same time.
  • Supports a Predictable Bowel Routine — Routine colostomy irrigation, performed consistently and under medical guidance, can train the bowel to empty on a predictable schedule. For eligible colostomy patients, this may significantly reduce or eliminate the need to wear a drainable pouch between irrigations — improving confidence, comfort, and daily quality of life.

Bottom line: If your cone has worn out or collapsed during use, SKU 022736 is the cost-effective replacement — but plan ahead for the lead time. If you need a replacement promptly or are building a backup supply, the full kit (401989) is in stock and ships in 1–3 days.

Who Is Colostomy Irrigation For?

Appropriate For Not Appropriate For
  • Colostomy patients (sigmoid or descending colostomy) whose physician or Stoma Care Nurse has recommended irrigation
  • Patients seeking a regulated, scheduled bowel routine
  • Patients who want to reduce reliance on drainable pouching systems between procedures
  • Existing ConvaTec SUR-FIT Natura system users
  • Patients with a urostomy
  • Patients with an ileostomy
  • Patients who have not received physician or clinician guidance on irrigation
  • Patients with certain bowel conditions — consult your care team

Always follow the recommendation and instruction of a physician or Stoma Care Nurse before beginning or modifying a colostomy irrigation routine.

How to Use the ConvaTec Visi-Flow Irrigator

  1. Gather your supplies. You will need: the Visi-Flow irrigator kit, an irrigator sleeve compatible with your system (sold separately), an ostomy belt if using a one-piece sleeve, lukewarm water, and a replacement pouch or stoma cap for after the procedure.
  2. Close the thumb-control regulator clamp on the tubing before filling the bag.
  3. Top-fill the irrigator bag with the amount of lukewarm water prescribed by your healthcare provider. Use the bold volume graduations to fill accurately.
  4. Confirm the paddle-wheel spins briefly when you open the clamp during priming — this confirms the flow path is open and unobstructed.
  5. Hang the irrigator bag so the bottom of the bag is approximately at shoulder height when seated.
  6. Prime the tubing. Open the clamp to let a small amount of water flow through the cone, removing air from the line. Close the clamp.
  7. Remove and discard your existing pouch or stoma cap.
  8. Attach your irrigator sleeve. For one-piece sleeves, secure with an ostomy belt. For SUR-FIT two-piece systems, attach the sleeve to your skin barrier flange. Place the open end of the sleeve into the toilet.
  9. Position yourself comfortably on or beside the toilet and open the top of the irrigator sleeve.
  10. Gently insert the Visi-Flow cone into your stoma as instructed by your care team. Hold the cone firmly against the stoma with one hand.
  11. Use your thumb to open the flow regulator with your other hand. Water will begin flowing. Watch the paddle wheel to confirm active flow. Adjust the regulator to control the rate — slower flow reduces cramping.
  12. If cramping occurs, close the regulator and wait for the cramp to pass before resuming. This is normal and does not require stopping the procedure.
  13. Once all the water has entered, remove the cone and close the top of the irrigator sleeve. Initial returns of water and stool will begin.
  14. Allow approximately one hour for the full irrigation and return procedure.
  15. After the procedure, clean the irrigator bag and cone thoroughly per manufacturer instructions and allow to air dry before storing.

Good choice to teach kids to be well-mannered at Memorial Day.
Format: Hardcover
The book starts with the 13 colonies each with their own flag. Then it discusses the Revolutionary war and the story of Betsy Ross with the qualifier that It says no one really knows who sewed the first flag. Then it discusses Francis Scott Key and the bombardment of Fort McHenry. Then how a star is added for each state added to the union. Mentions the Civil War and raising the flag on Iwo Jima. After that it has two pages on protocol for displaying and honoring the flag, and gives the pledge of allegiance. It is a good choice to teach kids to be well-mannered at parades and Memorial Day services. The cover art depicts a series of historical flags, not all of which are mentioned in the book which raises the question “Why?”. Starting at the back is the red Saint George’s Cross on a white field. Saint George the dragon slayer is the patron saint of England. The plain cross without the centered crown is the flag of England. This flag is shown on page 2 as the flag of one of the colonies but it doesn’t say which. In front of that is the flag of Maryland Colony which is still used as their state flag. Next in line is the coiled rattle snake Don’t Tread on Me flag. According to my Compton’s Encyclopedia, this originated with Esek Hopkins the first US Navy commander in chief and was used from 1776 to 1778. Colonel Christopher Gadsden presented a copy of this flag to the South Carolina legislature, so it is often referred to as the Gadsden flag but this is incorrect. The rattle snake image was used in 1775 by the minute men of Culpepper County Virginia. The image was widespread in the revolution and may have been used earlier than that. The snake is portrayed with 13 rattles, one for each colony. Rattle snakes will not initiate an attack on humans as we are too big to eat, but if stepped on they will counter attack and can be deadly. The point of the image is that the colonists did not want war, but would not tolerate abuse. (There is a rumor that this flag is connected to the slave trade, but Hopkins was from Rhode Island which was not part of the Confederacy, and I have not found any evidence to support this rumor). Next is the flag of New England which has the Saint George cross with a Pine Tree on a blue field. This flag was used at the battle of Bunker Hill. Normally the New England flag has a red field, but blue was substituted because the red caused confusion with the British Royal Navy ensign which has a Union Jack in the top left on a red field. Naval ensigns are designed to be highly visible at distance or in the smoke of battle. The bright red field is more visible than the Union Jack alone. The Union Jack is the national flag of the United Kingdom. Next is the Union Jack on a field of thirteen stripes. This is the first flag of the thirteen colonies. It was used in 1775 and 1776 as the flag of the continental army and navy but never officially adopted. Next is the Betsy Ross flag, followed by the Fort McHenry flag, and the modern flag. I hope this helps.

No progressive agenda! Perfect kids book!
Format: Hardcover
I'm a homeschooling parent of a kindergartener. As part of our social studies curriculum, I have been introducing the Pledge of Allegiance and the anthem, and I wanted to find a book that would go a little further into how the flag came to be and why we stand to say the Pledge, and this was the perfect book! It's written with great accuracy and at a child's level. There is also no progressive agenda, as I had discovered with some of the other kids books on the subject. It also lists when and how you are to stand for the flag, and has the Pledge printed in it. Would definitely recommend!

Very patriotic and educational
Format: Hardcover
I love everything about this book for my flag crazy grandson! He loves learning about our American flag. Very patriotic book. He's a bit young (not yet 3 years old) to fully understand it. But it's amazing what he picks up from having it read to him (over and over and over again!) He loves to sit and look at the pictures early in the morning before the rest of us are up and awake.

Great to teach with
Format: Hardcover
Respect for the flag is very important to me. I had volunteered to present flag etiquette to 5th grade social studies class. After the presentation, I realized I need to find something easier for them to comprehend. Purchased to help me share with younger students.
