Different kinds of ulos have different ceremonial significance. They are traditionally hand woven and in the case of higher-quality examples are significant family heirlooms, to be worn at important events, such as funerals, weddings or birth of a child.

This piece is called Ulos Simarinjam Sisi. Not everyone can wear this ulos. It is worn by the eldest child, whose role is to lead the prayer in traditional ceremonies. The impression it conveys is one of solemnity, classicism, gallantry, and authority.
