Moments of violet and vanilla, granite soils, some raisin and date scents weave through the bouquet. Garnacha Tintorera characteristically has a vibrant deep colour with rich aromas of cassis, sweet strawberries and raspberries and sage. On the palate, this unoaked medium-bodied red wine is full of lingering flavours of ripe plums, black pepper and herbs.

Bodegas Piqueras was founded in 1915 by Mario Bonete, one of the driving forces behind the creation of Almansa DO. in south-east Spain (100 kilometres inland from Valencia.) Today, Mario's sons look after the estate, with the help of talented winemaker Juan Cantos. The high-altitude vineyards is situated at a staggering 900-950 metres altitude with an extreme continental climate, low rainfall and limestone-rich soils which are managed using organic farming methods… perfect conditions for  low yielding, slow ripening vines which produce rich, ripe, bold red wines of excellent concentration and  quality.

Garnacha Tintorera the signature variety of the D.O. Almansa wine region is unique for the dark purple flesh of its berries and is sourced from 30-40-year-old dry-farmed bush vines. Grapes are hand-harvested starting the third week of September. Cold pre-maceration during 5 days to give the wine more colour, freshness and fruit aromas, alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks during 5 days with the skins to preserve the fruit and soften the tannins at a low temperature of 21º C.

Food Pairing: Enjoy this smooth red on its own or with grilled, roasted or fried dishes, barbecued red meats, rice dishes, cured salted meats (jamón, chorizo, etc.) and mild cheese.
