However the recent popularity of Amarone and Ripasso has really re-established this region as one of Italy best wine growing areas and quality is out of all recognition from the light carafe wines of the early 80`s.
Producer
Cantine Volpi`s wine-making premises are located in Viguzzolo, just outside the Piedmontese town of Tortona. Giuliano Noè has been responsible for the technical side for many years, always aiming at further improvement in the quality. When the wines have completed their initial period of development, they change surrounding for their subsequent maturation and ageing. The cellars where they complete their maturation are located in the out-skirts of Tortona, where an extensive variety of ageing barrels, stainless steel, large Slavonian oak casks and small French oak barriques are used.
Tasting Notes
The Volpi winery in Northern Italy has built an excellent reputation for its range of Organics. This well-balanced Pinot Grigio from the Veneto region is made from low yielding organic vineyards, which contribute intensity and ripeness. Pale yellow in colour, it has floral aromas of acacia and honeysuckle on the nose. The palate is fresh with flavours of lemon, white peach and melon.
Food
Although it drinks well as an aperitif, it is a great match with seafood and white meats.
