Edited by Amelia Jones

Part of the acclaimed Documents of Contemporary Art series of anthologies which collect writing on major themes and ideas in contemporary art.

It has been argued, most notably in psychoanalytic and modernist art discourse, that the production of works of art is fundamentally driven by sexual desire. It has further been argued, particularly since the early 1970s, that sexual drives and desires also condition the distribution, display and reception of art. This anthology traces how and why this identification of art with sexual expression or repression arose and how the terms have shifted in tandem with artistic and theoretical debates, from the era of the rights movements to the present. Among the subjects it discusses are abjection and the ‘informe’, or formless; pornography and the obscene; the ‘performativity’ of gender and sexuality; and the role of sexuality in forging radical art or curatorial practices, in response to such issues as state-sponsored repression and anti-feminism in the broader social realm.

Artists surveyed include Vito Acconci, Assume Vivid Astro Focus, Lynda Benglis, Louise Bourgeois, Gerard Byrne, George Chakravarthi, Judy Chicago, Vaginal Davis, Wim Delvoye, Elmgreen & Dragset, Valie Export, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Guillermo Gómez-Peña, Harmony Hammond, Claudette Johnson, Mary Kelly, Yayoi Kusama, Robert Legorreta, Lee Lozano, Paul McCarthy, Sarah Maple, Shirin Neshat, Lorraine O’Grady, Yoko Ono, Catherine Opie, Orlan, William Pope.L, Miriam Schapiro, Carolee Schneemann, Joan Semmel, Barbara Smith, Annie Sprinkle, Alina Szapocznikow, Del LaGrace Volcano, Hannah Wilke, David Wojnarowicz and Ming Wong.

Writers include Malek Alloula, Norman O. Brown, Judith Butler, Douglas Crimp, Angela Dimitrakaki, Michel Foucault, Daniel Guérin, Eleanor Heartney, Jonathan D. Katz, Rosalind Krauss, Julia Kristeva, Pawel Leszkowicz, Herbert Marcuse, Kobena Mercer, Laura Mulvey, Lawrence Rinder, Jacqueline Rose, Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick, Susan Sontag, Trinh T. My Lexi loves them!
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 16)
I myself have never tasted them or chewed them, but my dog Lexi goes crazy over them. I insert them into her chew toy puzzle and she is in heaven! the quality is good. the only problem with them is that my Lexi loves them so much! he is constantly bringing her chew toy over for a refill. again! Lets do it again!

Best dog toys for active dogs!
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 16), Size: 1 Count (Pack of 16)
A while ago we bought the ball bone toy for our dog but after trips to 4 different pet stores we were unable to find the replacement rings. Imagine my joy when I found them on Amazon for about $5! It's money well spent, our dog is happy and so are we! They are long lasting (about an hour for our most determined dog) and are easy to replace in the toy. Word of caution, sometimes bits of the treats get stuck in the grooves of the toy or under the ball, make sure you take the whole thing apart and wash it well before replacing the treats. So far this is the BEST toy to distract our curious overactive pup. We'll keep buying them. Look at this happy pup!

Longer Lasting than most things I've tried
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 16)
I bought these to go on the PetSafe Bouncy Bone which I had bought for my Australian Shepherd/Vizsla mix puppy who chews everything. We had gone through so many "long-lasting" chew toys/bones that really lasted only about 10 minutes and I was looking for something to occupy his time a little longer. These do the trick. Although they still don't last super long, they take a little more effort and keep him distracted a bit longer than anything else edible that I've tried. To me they are a bit pricey, so I try to make them last by only putting one on at a time, instead of one on each end of the toy. I also tighten the ends pretty tight to make it more difficult for him to get at the entire ring. If you don't mind the price, these are an easy and convenient way to keep your dog busy.
