Clivia miniata – St. John’s Lily (Belgian Hybrid)
This striking indigenous perennial produces clusters of vivid orange trumpet-shaped flowers from late winter into spring (July–September in Cape Town), bringing a burst of colour when most gardens are still resting. Perfect for shady beds, under trees, or as a feature in containers, it thrives in semi-shade to full shade with humus-rich soil. A water-wise choice, it’s ideal for indigenous, indoor, and ornamental gardens, offering year-round lush green foliage and seasonal brilliance. Add timeless elegance to your garden with the St. John’s Lily (Clivia miniata).

Why You’ll Love It

  • Spectacular orange blooms in late winter and spring
  • Evergreen glossy foliage for year-round appeal
  • Thrives in shady spots where few plants flourish
  • Indigenous and water-wise, perfect for Cape gardens
  • Excellent for pots, borders, and under-tree planting

Plant & Care

Plant in well-drained, humus-rich soil in a shady or semi-shady position. Water moderately, allowing soil to dry slightly between waterings. Feed with a balanced fertilizer in spring to encourage strong flowering. Remove spent flower stalks to tidy the plant and promote fresh growth. Protect from direct harsh sun, which can scorch leaves.

Always keep them at hand
After radiation I was left with compromised saliva production and these Xylimelts really help. I use one any time I feel my mouth becoming dry, when I’m going to do any sort of physical activity, when the weather is hot, after eating astringent foods or drinks - because the taste is very mild you can even keep one in your mouth while eating or drinking. They agreed really, really well out of sight on my gum line. I always put one in at night before sleep as I’m pretty sure they cut down on the dry throat that can lead to snoring. I have a pack in each purse, glove compartment, gym bag and pre-load several packs in my luggage so they’re always available. One of those little things that makes life easier and more pleasant. I’m overjoyed I survived cancer, but there have been changes after the fact. Xylimelts make at least one a whole lot easier to bear

Bowlby brilliantly exposes his new methodology
Format: Paperback
This book is a classic in attachment. It points to the beggining of the cientification of psychoanalysis. Bowlby brilliantly exposes his new methodology, influenced by ethology, but keeps Freud's ideas as his theoretical frame. Besides, it brings a foreword by Allan Schore, who went farther than Bowlby, thanks to the development of contemporary neuroscience. I strongly recommend it for those interested in mother-baby early communication.

Another fine Piece
As with Bowlbys' other works, this classic furthers the hypothesis of negative emotional influence on the continued development of humans as we integrate with our social environments. I liked it...in fact, liked all of Bowlbys' writings.
