Soap Testing Notes

Disclaimer: Test results are intended as a guideline. Results may vary based on individual recipes, additives, and process.

All fragrances in this bundle were tested using the following standard CP recipe:
30% lye concentration (water:lye ratio 2.300:1) with 5% superfat at 90°F. Recipe is 33% organic & sustainable palm oil, 33% coconut oil, 16% canola oil, 14.9% olive oil, 3% castor oil, and 0.01% vitamin E oil.

Lavender

FO Load Tested: 5% | Acceleration: Fast | Ricing: Slight | Discoloration: Cream | Trace: Normal | Scent Retention: Strong

Design Notes: Recommend mixing colorants prior to adding fragrance. The floral components cause this oil to accelerate very quickly, so we recommend hand stirring the fragrance in. The warmer this oil is soaped at, slight ricing can occur. For optimal working time and ricing avoidance, we recommend soaping between 80-90 degrees. Best for layers or single color designs. 

Sea Salt + Orchid

FO Load Tested: 5% | Acceleration: Mild | Ricing: None |  Discoloration: Brown | Trace: Normal  |  Scent Retention: Strong

Design Notes: Recommend mixing colorants prior to adding fragrance oil. In our test recipe we experienced fast acceleration, however, in other recipes (higher in light oils) slight acceleration was noted. We recommend testing your recipe in a small batch for behavior. 

Blueberry Lychee + Sugar Milk

FO Load Tested: 5% | Acceleration: None | Ricing: None |  Discoloration: Dark yellowish tan | Trace: Normal |  Scent Retention: Strong

Design Notes: Great to work with, stays fluid for a period of time and allows for intricate designs. Test mica on a smaller batch because yellow discoloration may completely change the mica color in final product. Can use Titanium dioxide to offset yellow discoloration (important to remember titanium dioxide tends to accelerate trace). 

Baja Cactus Blossom (type)

FO Load Tested: 5% | Acceleration: Slight | Ricing: None |  Discoloration: Cream | Trace: Normal |  Scent Retention: Mild

Design Notes: Some soapmakers experienced color morph when using blue colorants (blue turned into green). Experienced slight acceleration during stick blending; recommend pouring immediately into a mold because it will set very fast. Great for layers and texturing the top.

Gingham (type)

FO Load Tested: 5% | Acceleration: None | Ricing: None |  Discoloration: Dark yellow | Trace: Normal  |  Scent Retention: Very Strong

Design Notes: Great to work with, stays fluid for a period of time and allows for intricate designs. Test mica on a smaller batch because yellow discoloration may completely change the mica color in final product. Can use Titanium dioxide to offset yellow discoloration (important to remember titanium dioxide tends to accelerate trace). 

Galactic Skies

FO Load Tested: 5% | Acceleration: None | Ricing: None |  Discoloration: Light Purple | Trace: Normal  |  Scent Retention: Strong

Design Notes: Purple discoloration may cause some colorants to morph. Soaped very well. Stays fluid for a long time, allowing for intricate, complex designs or swirl designs. 

Wildflower Whispers

FO Load Tested: 5% | Acceleration: None | Ricing: None |  Discoloration: Dark Yellow/Tan | Trace: Normal  |  Scent Retention: Moderate

Design Notes: Fragrance soaps very well. Batter stays fluid for a long time, allowing for plenty of working time for intricate and complex design work. 

Grapefruit + Mint

FO Load Tested: 5% | Acceleration: None | Ricing: None |  Discoloration: Cream | Trace: Normal  |  Scent Retention: Strong

Design Notes: Fragrance soaps very well. Batter stays fluid for a long time, allowing for plenty of working time for intricate and complex design work. 

Wild Sage

FO Load Tested: 5% | Acceleration: Fast | Ricing: None/Slight |  Discoloration: None | Trace: Normal  |  Scent Retention: Very Strong

Design Notes: Soaped very well. Acceleration speed can vary dependant on recipe. Minor ricing has also been noted when soaping at warmer temperatures. We recommend mixing colorants prior to adding colorants due to slight acceleration. 

Fresh Mint + Eucalyptus

FO Load Tested: 5% | Acceleration: Fast | Ricing: None | Discoloration: Cream | Trace: Normal  |  Scent Retention: Strong

Design Notes: Recommend mixing colorants prior to adding fragrance oil. Accelerates with a stick blender, so consider hand stirring the fragrance in. Sets up quickly in the mold. Great for layer designs and textures.
