Installation Guide

  1. Preparation: Gather all tools and components from the kit. Ensure the engine is off and cool before beginning work.
  2. Remove Lower Unit: Disconnect the lower unit from the mid-section according to your engine's service manual. Support it securely during removal.
  3. Drain Gear Oil: Remove drain and vent plugs from the lower unit. Use the included gear oil pump for refilling later.
  4. Disassemble Water Pump: Remove the water pump housing and carefully extract the old impeller, gaskets, seals, and wear plate. Inspect all surfaces for damage.
  5. Install New Wear Plate: Position the new wear plate (319275) in the pump housing. Ensure proper alignment.
  6. Install Impeller: Lubricate the new impeller (396725 396723) with marine grease. Install impeller keys (334897) and carefully insert the impeller, ensuring vanes face the correct direction.
  7. Install Seals and Gaskets: Place the new seal (324981), insert cup (340619), and gasket (336530) in their proper positions. Do not reuse old gaskets.
  8. Reassemble Water Pump: Reinstall the water pump housing, tightening bolts to manufacturer's specifications. Check that all components seat properly.
  9. Replace Thermostat: Locate the thermostat housing on the cylinder head. Remove the old thermostat and install the new one (5005440) with the correct orientation.
  10. Replace Fuel Filter: Disconnect fuel lines and replace the old fuel filter with the new filter (5005266). Ensure connections are secure and leak-free.
  11. Refill Gear Oil: Using the included gear oil pump (24OP149) and new drain screw gaskets (311598), refill the lower unit with manufacturer-recommended gear oil until it flows from the vent hole. Reinstall plugs immediately.
  12. Reinstall Lower Unit: Reattach the lower unit to the mid-section. Test the engine in a water tank or on the boat to verify proper operation and check for leaks.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

Q: How do I confirm this kit fits my specific Evinrude engine?
A: Check the compatible engine models table above for your HP rating and year. Your engine should fall within 40HP-65HP and model years 2004-2020. You can also verify using your engine's serial number with our Johnson/Evinrude serial number guide linked above.

Q: How often should I perform an annual service with this kit?
A: As the name suggests, this service should be performed annually or every 100 hours of operation, whichever comes first. More frequent service may be needed in harsh saltwater environments or if you notice overheating or performance issues.

Q: What are the signs that my water pump impeller needs replacement?
A: Common symptoms include weak water stream from the tell-tale indicator, engine overheating, steam from the engine, reduced performance, or alarm activation. Never ignore these signs—impeller failure can cause severe engine damage.

Q: Do I need any special tools to install this service kit?
A: Basic hand tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers) are sufficient for most installations. The kit includes a gear oil pump for lower unit service. A torque wrench is recommended for reassembly to manufacturer specifications.

Q: Can I use this kit if my engine has been modified or has aftermarket parts?
A: This kit is designed for stock Evinrude engines within the specified HP and year range. If your engine has modifications, verify compatibility of each component before installation.

Q: Is this an OEM kit or aftermarket?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.

Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.

Q: What is your warranty and return policy?
A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.

Uncompromising Quality at Every Price Point
I really like this watch. The case and back are made of steel and it is substantial. The glass is very hard and clear. The writing on the face is subtly three dimensional (it’s not just printed on the surface). Even the three circles on the face have very precise, slightly raised concentric circles. It’s a little hard to see the black hour and minute hand agains the military green watch face in low light. But it is also what makes this watch aesthetically unique. I am a little confused as to why the second hand is bright yellow, but the hour and minute hand are not outlined in yellow. If you are in sunlight, it’s easy to read the time. I got the version with the rubber band. I like that a lot too. Soft, substantial, pliable. Very comfortable. Timex is consistently high quality for each price point (ranging from $20 resin cases to $2,000 titanium). If you pay more, the materials and details match that price. But, the quality is always uncompromising. And their watches are both simple and aesthetically pleasing.

Great watch, but serious design flaw; Not expedition worthy.
Color: Black/Black/Brown
This is a great watch. Love the metal casing, band, and aesthetic design. Although it looks and 'feels' rugged, it is not worthy for the man of adventure. Let me explain. The middle knob of the watch (the main knob that you push for light/pull to set time) is a bit large and too exposed for its own good. This makes the knob vulnerable to any stress. Example, if you flex your wrist/hand backwards throughout your adventures, whether pushing yourself off the ground or climbing over rocks, the back of your hand places pressure on the knob. The knob eventually reacts to this stress by breaking off. The knob has a little metal stem behind it that appears to be made of lower quality metal. This knob is crucial to the watch as it is used to set the time (by pulling and turning knob). Without it, the watch is useless regarding time. If you are having difficulty understanding the hand/wrist stress, think of yourself in a push-up position while wearing the watch. The back of your hand places stress on the knob which is exacerbated by the angle of the watch strapped in that position. Perhaps I had a fluke, but this same problem happened on 3 watches. Yes, I loved this watch so much, that I purchased it 2 more times. The knob on the first one broke after being in the field doing archaeology, the second in an outdoor adventure, and the 3rd occurred by simply pushing myself off the floor after lying down. The knob broke off in all 3. This is a design flaw combined with low quality metal for the metallic rod behind the knob. If you look at a few other Timex 'expedition' models, you'll see the case is molded to the sides of the knob, protecting it from stress. This particular model could use something like that. I really loved this watch and still do. But I cannot recommend it to men who do active things. If you have a simple life working in the office and come home to the couch, this watch will suit you fine. For all others who move their hands in all sorts of directions, beware of this watch.

Great starter Field Watch. Rugged but simple and elegant.
Color: Black/Black/Brown, Color: Black/Black/Brown
I've been wanting to own a field watch for a while. I never got used to smart watches anyway, so I decided to go for a good brand that doesn't cost too much. I decided for this Time Expedition because it gas a good balance between rugged looks, simplicity and elegance. It's perfect for wearing every day, but also great for when you need to dress up as well. If you are planning on getting this watch, be aware that the seconds are tracked on the small dial at the bottom. The large "seconds" hand it's meant for the chonograph feature, so it will sit static at the zero mark until you start the chonograph. You also need to set it up out of the box. It's a simple process to set up the time, the date and reset the small dials in the zero position. The watch came without a manual, but there are plenty of videos on Youtube showing how to set up and use this exact model The band is simple but elegant. It looks like nobuck but it's not really real leather. I can't say how durable it is yet or how long it will look over the time, but Timex is respectable enough so I expect this band to last several months. It can be replaced and there are lots of aftermarket options so I don't worry about this. As other Expedition watches, it also comes with the Indiglo feature. You can activate night mode by pushing down the main button, then the entire face lights up. When using this feature, I noticed that the hands (being white) do not have a good contrast against the lit up face, but you get used to it. The hands themselves are bright under low-light conditions, so you don't really need the Indiglo feature unless you need to see other details from the watch Anyway, I'm very happy with this purchase.

Did not arrive in original packaging, though I do like the watch.
Color: Black/Black/Brown
The watch is great, I love it. I've had it for a week now and it's comfortable, functional, and stylish. However, I'm giving it only 3 stars because of how I received it. It was delivered in a ziplock sleeve with the warranty sheet stuffed in a bubble wrap package. I bought what was described as a new product, but it did not come in the original package, nor owners manual. I had to find the manual from the manufacturer's website in order to set the dang thing!! It begs the question... Did I really receive a genuine Timex timepiece? Either way, so far I'm happy with the product with the exception that the second hand on the stop watch sits about half a click left of noon. I have not yet tested the water resistance, which I'm a little apprehensive about since there seemed to be some sort of light colored lubricant or seal around the crown. I'll have to try it before my time frame for returns has passed. All in all, I would buy it again, just not from amazon fulfillment! UPDATE: I haven't worn the watch in over a year because the crown used to set the time has popped off. Spent no small amount of time trying to find a replacement, but I can't find good measurements for it. Would have to have access to an assortment and go by trial and error.... I guess it still deserves 3 stars?

Takes a Licking and Keeps on Ticking
Color: Green/Black
I love this watch despite the fact that it is really a toy. I love the look of the watch, I love how lite the weight of the watch is on my wrist, and it really does keep good time if you manage the solar charge properly. Other than looking cool on your wrist, this watch has absolutely no functions other than time keeping. The black plastic bezel is molded into the case and does not turn, so don't plan on using that. The watch has no light, the dial numbers are non-luminous and the hands are very limited in terms of luminosity. No buttons. All you can do is adjust the time and date by pulling out what used to be a winding stem in the good old days. The small tag on the strap with Geographic coordinates shown on it indicate the location of the old Timex manufacturing facility (SW of Waterbury, CT). I have a nice ledge at my bedroom window and it gets good western sun for a good part of the day regardless of the time of year. On this ledge you will find a half dozen solar powered watches (mostly Casio) properly aligned to maximize the charge they may receive each day. Note that the description for this Timex watch specifically states that a lightbulb won't charge this watch. You need direct sunlight for several hours if you want to get more than a 3-week charge into this watch. So, I'll leave you with a couple of tips, my friends; 1.) If you are looking for a first watch to give your outdoorsy oriented Son or Daughter, then give them this one. Why? Because it is cool looking, fairly well built, and it actually works, 2.) After you receive your Timex watch, be sure to keep the display mount it is packaged with. It makes a great fixture to mount your watch on for charging and allows you to maximize the position of the solar cells on the dial so that you can optimize charging time. Have Fun! Jimmy
