Lost Lantern hand-selected this cask from New Holland Brewery & Distillery in Holland, Michigan. A pioneer in both craft brewing and now distilling, New Holland brings together beer and spirits in bold, innovative ways. Their acclaimed Dragon’s Milk Stout-Finished Bourbon has forged a new finishing tradition, pushing the boundaries of American spirits.

This is a four-year-old Michigan straight bourbon whiskey finished for 2 years and 5 months in a New Holland Dragon’s Milk stout barrel. Rich and creamy, it has notes of black forest cake and dried figs on the nose. The palate bursts with notes of chocolate mousse, spicy oak, and warm chocolate. Very complex, with a rich and powerful finish. It is our first release from New Holland, our first release from Michigan, and our first release from a distillery that emerged from a large craft brewery.

New Holland is, thus far, the most well-known of the distilleries we’ve featured in our Discovery Club, and they’re a longtime favorite of our friends at Breaking Bourbon. Their whiskies are available in the Midwest, but hard to find elsewhere. In addition, their stout-finished bourbon is rarely available at cask strength or as a single barrel. And we think their stout-finished bourbon is truly excellent, and well worth knowing about if you don’t already.
