Vibrant red with violet hues. Fruit aromas of blackcurrant and raspberry with a touch of rosemary. A toasty oak nuance provides some background complexity. The palate is rich and generous with a broad and soft mouthfeel. Subtle tannins with copious amounts of fruit sweetness.

Vintage 2021 has been of exceptional quality and the resulting wines will be celebrated and reflected on for many years to come. With a lower yield due to a combination of frosts and cooler weather during flowering, the grapes ripened quickly resulting in a compact and quick harvest.

The fruit for our 2021 Merlot was sourced from a diverse range of vineyards and soil types spanning the entire Hawke’s Bay region. Parcels of fruit were individually harvested, crushed at the winery and inoculated with selected yeasts for fermentation. Post fermentation, the wine was pressed to oak and underwent malolactic fermentation and aging for six months on light lees. Assemblage and bottling took place earlier than normal to retain the fruit purity and freshness of the vintage.
