The Primitive Armchair is a provocative exploration of form and history, designed by the Turin-based collective Studio Nucleo for Qeeboo. It challenges the traditional concept of "comfort" by presenting a silhouette that looks like it was carved from a single block of raw stone or prehistoric rock, yet provides a surprisingly ergonomic seating experience. Studio Nucleo’s "Primitive" project is a creative journey back to the origin of objects. The design is inspired by the asymmetrical, rugged shapes of natural minerals and the primary geometry of the first man-made structures. It is a critique of the over-industrialized world, inviting the user to reconnect with a more fundamental, almost "Stone Age" aesthetic within a modern domestic setting. While it appears heavy and monolithic, the Primitive Armchair is a triumph of modern engineering. Its form is composed of intersecting primary volumes—cubes and rectangles—that have been "eroded" and softened at the edges. This creates a piece of furniture that looks different from every angle, functioning more like a piece of contemporary sculpture than a standard chair.
