Yamaha MusicCast 20 (WX-021) Wireless Speaker at Vinyl Sound Toronto Canada

The MusicCast 20 (WX-021) is a compact 40W wireless speaker from Yamaha (Hamamatsu, Japan), available at Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada. Part of Yamaha's MusicCast ecosystem, it delivers hi-resolution audio up to 192kHz/24-bit, full MusicCast multi-room integration, and AirPlay 2 in a single unit measuring just 150 x 186 x 130mm. What sets it apart from conventional Bluetooth speakers is its ability to function as wireless rear surround channels with a compatible MusicCast AV receiver or soundbar, making it one of the most versatile compact wireless speakers available. Use one as a standalone room speaker, pair two for stereo, or deploy a pair as true wireless surrounds in a MusicCast home cinema system — all managed from the MusicCast app and controllable via Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.

Three Ways to Use the MusicCast 20

The MusicCast 20 is designed to adapt to how listeners actually use audio in the home. As a standalone speaker, it streams from Spotify Connect, Amazon Music, Tidal, Deezer, and other services, or plays locally stored hi-res files from a NAS drive or network server. Two units linked wirelessly through the MusicCast app form a true left/right stereo pair with no physical connection between them required. In a home theater setup, a pair configured for MusicCast Surround connects wirelessly as rear channels to a compatible Yamaha MusicCast AV receiver or soundbar, eliminating the need to run speaker cable across the room entirely. All three modes are managed from the same MusicCast app without any hardware changes.

Hi-Resolution Audio in a Compact Wireless Speaker

Most compact wireless speakers cap audio quality at CD resolution. The MusicCast 20 goes further, supporting FLAC, WAV, and AIFF files up to 192kHz/24-bit and ALAC up to 96kHz/24-bit over the network, making it a genuine hi-fi source component rather than a convenience streaming device. The 40W amplifier drives a 9cm woofer at 25W and a 3cm soft-dome tweeter at 15W, supported by dual passive radiators for extended low-frequency output from the compact cabinet. Dual-band Wi-Fi at 2.4GHz and 5GHz, plus a rear Ethernet port, ensures a stable network connection for uninterrupted hi-res playback.

MusicCast Multi-Room and Smart Home Integration

The MusicCast 20 integrates fully into Yamaha's MusicCast platform, which allows it to be grouped with any other MusicCast-enabled product in the home, including AV receivers, soundbars, and additional MusicCast 20 units, for synchronized whole-home audio controlled from a single app. AirPlay 2 support, available via firmware update, allows the speaker to be added to Apple's Home app, grouped with other AirPlay 2 devices, and controlled via Siri. Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice control compatibility adds further hands-free convenience for everyday listening.

Key Features

  • 40W Total Output: A 25W woofer amplifier and 15W tweeter amplifier drive a 9cm woofer and 3cm soft-dome tweeter, supplemented by dual passive radiators for fuller low-frequency response from a compact enclosure.
  • Hi-Resolution Audio Support: FLAC, WAV, and AIFF playback up to 192kHz/24-bit and ALAC up to 96kHz/24-bit from network-attached storage or a local server.
  • MusicCast Surround: A pair of MusicCast 20 units can be configured as fully wireless rear surround channels with compatible Yamaha MusicCast AV receivers and soundbars, with no speaker cables required.
  • Stereo Pairing: Two units pair as a left/right stereo system through the MusicCast app without any physical connection between them.
  • MusicCast Multi-Room: Groups with any MusicCast-enabled Yamaha product across the home for synchronized whole-home audio from a single app.

  • Bluetooth 4.2: Supports SBC and AAC codecs for wireless playback from smartphones and tablets within a 10-metre range.
  • Dual-Band Wi-Fi and Ethernet: 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi plus a rear Ethernet port provide flexible, stable network connectivity options.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Yamaha MusicCast 20 (WX-021)?

The Yamaha MusicCast 20 (WX-021) is a compact 40W wireless speaker supporting hi-resolution audio up to 192kHz/24-bit, MusicCast multi-room integration, AirPlay 2, and Bluetooth 4.2. It can operate as a standalone room speaker, as one half of a wireless stereo pair, or as a wireless rear surround channel in a MusicCast home cinema system, making it one of the most functionally flexible compact speakers in its category.

How does the Yamaha MusicCast 20 compare to the Sonos Era 100 or Denon Home 150?

The Yamaha MusicCast 20 offers a meaningful advantage over the Sonos Era 100 and Denon Home 150 in its ability to function as a wireless rear surround speaker with a compatible AV receiver or soundbar, a feature neither competitor provides in the same way. The MusicCast 20 also supports hi-resolution audio up to 192kHz/24-bit over the network, while the Sonos Era 100 does not natively stream hi-res files from local storage. The Denon Home 150 integrates with HEOS multi-room, which is more limited in scope than Yamaha's MusicCast ecosystem when combined with a full AV receiver setup. For listeners who want a compact wireless speaker that can grow into a complete surround sound system, the MusicCast 20 offers a wider upgrade path.

Can the Yamaha MusicCast 20 be used as wireless surround speakers with an AV receiver?

Yes. Two MusicCast 20 units configured for MusicCast Surround can serve as fully wireless rear surround channels with compatible Yamaha MusicCast AV receivers and soundbars, with no speaker cables required between the receiver and the rear speakers. Compatibility varies by model, so confirming that the receiver or soundbar supports MusicCast Surround before purchasing is recommended.

Does the Yamaha MusicCast 20 support hi-resolution audio?

Yes. The MusicCast 20 plays FLAC, WAV, and AIFF files at up to 192kHz/24-bit and ALAC files at up to 96kHz/24-bit, streamed from a NAS drive or network server on the same Wi-Fi network. Bluetooth playback is limited to SBC and AAC codecs and does not support hi-res audio.

How do I set up two Yamaha MusicCast 20 units as a stereo pair?

Two MusicCast 20 units are paired as a left/right stereo system entirely through the MusicCast app, with no physical cable connection required between them. Both units must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. The pairing process is completed within the app in a few minutes and can be reversed or reconfigured at any time.

What streaming services does the Yamaha MusicCast 20 support?

The MusicCast 20 supports Spotify Connect, Amazon Music, Tidal, and Deezer natively through the MusicCast app, along with AirPlay 2 for Apple Music and any other iOS or macOS audio source, and Bluetooth from virtually any device. Additional services may be available through the MusicCast app depending on region.

Where can I buy the Yamaha MusicCast 20 in Toronto or Canada?

The Yamaha MusicCast 20 (WX-021) is available at Vinyl Sound, an authorized Yamaha dealer in Toronto, Canada, in both Black and White finishes. Vinyl Sound carries Yamaha's full MusicCast speaker and AV receiver lineup and can assist with system configuration advice, multi-room setup guidance, and purchase. Nice Pillow
Color: White, Size: King
I waited a few weeks before writing this review. It’s very difficult to find Info on this pillow but here’s my take on it. Height: It’s a nice height on the pillow. It has a 2” gusset which upon my research is a way to keep the inside foam and down at least 2” high. Types of sleeping: I find this pillow to be comfortable in all sleep positions. I do find that because it’s not full foam that you don’t get that full compression feeling so back sleep is not as comfortable to me as other pillows I’ve used but still very comfortable Back: Has enough height that my neck is supported. It’s not full foam so you will have to adjust your head position so it fits perfectly into the curve of the pillow for best support. Side: Thick enough that the compatibility with my mattress sink allows my body to be comfortably aligned. I have a medium hybrid tempurpedic luxe breeze. Stomach: Just barely thick enough to be comfortable. I sleep somewhat weird and like my arm to go under the pillow. This gives me the correct height for stomach sleeping if I put my head on the bottom part of the pillow. This also allows me to breathe lol. Cooling This pillow has awesome cooling. Even when I wake up the pillow is still ice cold. Never had this feeling before and I’m a hot sleeper so i really like this. Granted I do set my house temperature to like 73 to sleep. The sensor is right next to my bed so it’s a true 73. Material This has foam outer layers and a fiber fill. It really does feel unique and it’s comfy. It’s a decently heavy pillow too in king so that gives confidence there is good quality foam and materials in it. One thing to know, the cover is “slippery” and it took some getting used to, even though I use a pillow case I can feel it slides in the case more than other pillows. I think it’s because the cover is very thing to promote airflow and heat transfer. I wish it was adjustable for the price. Price I like the pillow, and got mine on sale. But I do think it’s a bit overpriced for what it is. Evidently the sale price I got wasn’t a good price and it’s gone as much as 20% off. Oh well.

Great Cooling, But Lacking Support
Color: White, Size: Standard
I have to agree with some of the other reviews—this pillow just doesn't offer enough support. It initially feels plush and inviting, but after a minute or so, your head sinks too far and ends up pressing against the underlying latex, which has a rubbery, somewhat uncomfortable feel. It might be an excellent fit for those with smaller frames, but for me, it fell short in terms of proper neck and head support. On the plus side, the cooling aspect is impressive. It's cool to the touch and noticeably more breathable than many pillows I've tried. I've seen some complaints about it not staying cool all night, but honestly, no pillow really does. Casper's claim of "12 hours of cooling" seems like marketing optimism—your body heat will eventually warm up any pillow, no matter how well-designed. That’s just basic thermodynamics. All in all, it's a well-made pillow with excellent cooling performance. If you have a smaller frame, this could be a great choice. Unfortunately, it just didn’t work for my needs.

Is this a joke?
Color: White, Size: King
I don't usually write reviews, but I have to for this pillow. The pillow measures 16" x 32", not 18" x 34" as stated in the description. That's not really a big deal, but they should have the correct size in the description. The problem with this pillow is the total lack of support. My head falls through this pillow within a half hour of laying my head on it. This causes me neck pain and I have to switch to my old pillow in the middle of the night. I'm a bigger dude that's 6'3" and I only sleep on my side. I thought this pillow would be great based on the other reviews that stated it works for side sleepers. I would describe this pillow as a greatly overpriced marshmallow. The pillow does have some decent cooling properties, but they don't last all night as described. This pillow would probably work great for someone who sleeps on their stomach. I wouldn't recommend this pillow to a bigger dude that's a side sleeper. Note: I did find a great Casper pillow that works for me. I bought the Casper Sleep Essential Cooling Foam pillow on Amazon. It's the one that's all foam with a phase change layer to help with cooling. The pillow has great support and it doesn't cause me any neck pain. The best part is the price, it cost less than half the price of the Hybrid Snow Pillow. I hope this review helps someone.

A Near Perfect Pillow
Color: White, Size: King
I was hesitant to order this pillow because it was so expensive. I was looking for a cooling pillow and after a previously purchased pillow lost it's "cool" after a few nights of sleeping on it, I was concerned that this Casper pillow would do the same. The pillow is so comfortable. My only complaint is that it does not seem to hold the coolness all night. I find I need to flip the pillow over part way through the night. But, when I flip the pillow, it is perfectly cool. The pillow is supportive without being too firm. I love this pillow!
