Description

Wirra Wirra Church Block McLaren Vale Cabernet Shiraz Merlot 2022 (Australia)"A vintage that marks an incoming winemaker and a culling of lesser quality fruit. Cabernet and shiraz, the Aussie archetype. Consummate, medium bodied and savory, with better tannin management than what I recall of past vintages. Bay leaves, currants and iodine, with licorice tannins serving as gentle directives to good, supple length. An everyday claret for the sophisticate, with a strong maritime feel" Ned Goodwin, Master of Wine, Jamessuckling.

"A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot. The Wirra Wirra worker bee, this does what Church Block typically does: deliver ample flavour and fruit plushness but with a measure of structure and freshness that makes it a great allrounder, a friend to many foods and weighted to invite a second glass. Brambly red fruits, leafiness, cracked pepper, dark berry notes, a sweet-fruited mid-palate, and a nice grip to close. It’s a fine release" Marcus Ellis, Halliday Wine Companion, Feb 2024

"The Church Block is upping its game in 2022 with the addition of superstar winemaker Emma Wood. It delivers generous layers of fruit, leafy lifted blackcurrants showing Cabernet origins brightly, with chocolate-berry and old oak in strong support. Excellent power for the price, more berry with gravel and graphite underpinned by a solid core of tannins. The structure is surprisingly strong for a wine at this price, so it’s a bargain for the cellar" Angus Hughson, Vinous.com, Jul 2023

Deep crimson. Classic blackberry, leaf and briar of Cabernet Sauvignon are closely pursued by opulent plums and wild herbs of Shiraz and Merlot. Five spice, dark chocolate and ripe mixed berries underpin the varietal cascade. Hallmarks of a timeless Church Block. A wealth of cassis, plums and black cherries are tethered to the palate with smartly ripened tannin. Dense, plush and balanced with a lovely core of ripe fruit, this wine is effortless in its harmony and energy. From release and over the next 15 years.

Celebrating 50 years of Church Block. The first wine the late Greg Trott produced under the Wirra Wirra label back in 1972. He took the name from one of the original vineyards, which runs next to the small Bethany Church (est. 1854) across the road from Wirra Wirra’s century old ironstone cellars. Over five decades, the Church Block label has become an Australian favourite.

Wirra Wirra sources fruit from a selection of grower vineyards across McLaren Vale, including our own blocks adjacent to the winery.

Fruit was gently crushed and destemmed en route to fermenter. Early temperatures were maintained at 20-22ºC, rising to 25-28ºC at peak of ferment. In general, ferments were pumped over two to four times daily to assist flavour and colour extraction, as well as spreading heat through the cap and body of the ferment. Nearing completion and having achieved the desired flavour and tannin extraction, pump-overs were reduced to once or twice daily to keep the cap moist. Close to dryness, wine was drained from the fermenter and the remaining skins were pressed via tank or basket press. Wines completed their secondary malolactic fermentation in tank or barrel, with oak selection and maturation times tailored to each wine and grape varietal – parcels showing a more powerful structure receiving a longer maturation time in oak before blending.

Blend parcels were matured for an average of 12 months using a combination of new and seasoned French and American oak.

Food Pairing: Grilled sirloin steak with browned butter and pepper sauce, or a portobello mushroom burger with halloumi and beetroot relish.

Liked it
Format: Kindle
I liked the worlds and the characters. The prophesy is confusing in that I would think, since all worlds ore on a path to destruction, the angels would want their world to be saved. I am sure there is more evil that will be revealed as the series proceeds. I dislike a prolonged “poor little me” trope and the main character has moved past that, thankfully, and began to show a fierce attitude as the novel progressed. The last portion of the novel had some great action. It’s worth reading, just be patient with a slow start.

Unexpectedly emotional and packed with action!
Format: Kindle
Why do I suddenly want nothing more than a tiny wyvern to snuggle with?! It’s adorable and I absolutely love all of those moments! Wings of Stars was everything I’ve come expect from this powerful author duo. The fact that it’s written by two different people is completely transparent to the reader and they’ve brought us another world and characters that we’re all emotionally connected to and fully invested in! The injustice that we see from Alfemir in the many forms in which it comes is infuriating and makes me desperate for the conclusion of the story so they can all get what’s coming to them! I love all the guys right now, with one exception, and if you’re read it, you know exactly who I’m talking about. Bastian is hilarious - he was the comedic relief through an otherwise quite serious story. My heart bleeds for him and I can’t wait to see how he progresses through the series. Parts of Wings of Stars were unexpectedly emotional and of course I was left with my jaw on the floor at that cliffhanger! Next, please!

Niz !!!
Format: Kindle
First, let me say that I love both of these authors. I have been hooked by both ever since I discovered their writings, and I follow their social media groups closely. This book did not disappoint. Sure, there are several questions that I have, a couple of times I went huh (which I won't get into because I do not want to offer any spoilers) and I hated the cliff hanger lol, but I cannot lie and say I didn't love the book, because I did. The twist on angels was new and fresh, even though that is part of my questions. The beginning and ending were the better parts, the middle was needed but sorta bogged a little. Kieran was confusing but relatable. Niz is BY FAR the best character of the book, love NIZ. For me, Bastian is a close second, always loved the crazy ones. The other men were good, but Steele gets on my nerves and as of right now, IMO, he doesn't belong, but we will see how that goes. I have lots of questions, but this was an excellent start to a new series and I cannot wait for the next book. Highly recommend

fallen destiny? more like destined to fall in love
Format: Kindle
Kieran is an angel, but she doesn't have an affinity. Nothing angers her father more. If she doesn't find an affinity soon she will be cast to earth & have her wings removed. But she has the choice to become a fallen angel, wings turn black, & live her life on edge. Towards the end of the book things start to make sense. Gabe’s nickname for Kieran, Steele’a hatred, Bastian’s belief that Kieran is powerful. This book ended literally during a war? As one of her friends was injured, and admitted a bit secret? Talk about cliff hanger. The next book comes out August 5th.

Well holy moly!
Format: Kindle
Holy moly that story definitely had me hooked! Kieran was definitely a character that I immediately adored. She has obviously had to deal with a butt load of too high expectations from her father (who is 🤬).. She has been helpless when it came to finding out her affinity with so many years of no answers & perceived failure. When Ronan, gives her a small inkling of hope that she be a Beast Tamer, she jumps into it. But again she doesn’t seem to fit. But when she runs into Gabe again, she ends up helping him & rethinking her life in Alfemir. And when the opportunity comes she decides leaving is the best option. But when Ronan demands he comes with her & then the random appearance of Bastian, she is feeling very overwhelmed. After she chooses to fall with them, they land on earth exactly where Gabe is located only to run into Steele who is a person that I was finding hard to like. After training, she eventually finds out she does have an affinity & it’s one that no longer exist & is incredibly powerful but also has a prophecy attached to it. I feel incredibly bad for her on she learns about the prophecy & Steele’s connection with it too. But that ending, with the battle scene & Niz….yeah definitely was not expecting that but hello I am all here for it too! Absolutely amazing start of a series & I for sure will be waiting for the next one to come out. Amazing job!
