The Boston Fern is an incredibly popular house plant, featuring bright green fronds that arch out into a glorious shape. Particularly well-suited to bathrooms and kitchens, Boston Ferns reach an eventual height of 90-120cm, thrive in humid environments and look equally good on a shelf or spilling out from a hanging basket.

With leaves resembling the skin of its namesake fruit, the Watermelon Peperomia is one of those plants that looks like it belongs anywhere. Indeed, it is just as attractive on an office desk as it is on a living room sideboard. Pale green leaves are striped with a darker shade of green, producing a distinctive yet subtle appearance. Watermelon Peperomias grow to an ultimate height of up to 30cm and are the perfect addition to any house plant collection.

Calathea Surprise Star is an eye-catching houseplant boasting dark green leaves patterned with rose-pink. Also known as a Rose Painted Calathea, the plant’s leaves close together in the evenings like hands in prayer, hence the common name, Prayer Plant. Reaching an eventual height of up to 60cm, a Surprise Star Prayer Plant adds a touch of beauty to any room.

Whether you choose to display your new house plants together or separately, they don’t need a huge amount of attention to flourish. Place each plant in indirect light or partial shade, taking care not to choose a position where strong sunlight can cause leaf scorch. Water weekly, when the top 2-3cm of soil feels dry and reduce watering during the autumn and winter months when the plant isn’t growing.
