The name Domaine Michel Lafarge is synonymous with the village of Volnay in Burgundy. The namesake of the domaine headed the domaine from 1949 until his passing in January of 2020. His son Frédéric and granddaughter Clothilde are producing incredible wines, guided by the knowledge of those previous generations. They work 12 hectares of vineyards, mainly in Volnay, but also in Meursault and Beaune. While the majority of wine produced at the domaine is Pinot Noir, they do make a small amount of Aligoté and Chardonnay. 



The Lafarge family has always eschewed the usage of chemicals in the vineyards, and encouraged by some of their winemaking friends such as Lalou Bize, they began their work with biodynamic viticulture. While still not typical today, this was extremely rare when they started in the mid 2000s. 



The Lafarge wines are all about purity, achieved through traditional vinification techniques. The Aligoté doré vines used for this bottling were planted in soils of deep clay and limestone. Vinification practices include whole-cluster pressing, and indigenous yeast fermentation in stainless steel tank. The wine is aged for three to six months in older barrels.
