The soil is grey and black marls, partially covered with fallen rocks (scree). The vineyards broadly face west, at an elevation of 300–400 m. 50% aged in barrel, 50% in foudre.
Light to mid crimson, a little darker than the Pinot Noir and even more tangy, if more severe in its tight freshness. Intensely bright and pure. It is a little more herbal and a little sweeter fruited, but the fruit is lifted and pure. Silky, a little spicy and with impressive intensity for a wine that at first seemed so delicate. Endless and fresh, utterly mouth-watering. 18/20
