Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I P9443, coded ZD-D, served with No. 222 Squadron RAF during the height of the Battle of Britain. The Mk.I variant was the RAF’s premier interceptor at the outbreak of the war, powered by the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine and armed with eight .303 Browning machine guns.
