Pro-ject T2 (Rainier) Turntable

T2 Series Hi-Fi Turntable with Sumiko Rainier MM Phono Cartridge

The T2 Base Model

The T2 turntable sensibly enhances our critically acclaimed T1 formula. It introduces new audiophile features & sets a higher standard of performance in its class & price range!

Top-Quality Materials

The elegantly crafted CNC-machined plinth has been expanded in size to enhance stability & tonearm geometry. Available in 3 striking finishes (gloss black, satin white or Walnut laminate), no plastic is used in its construction! Also free of resonant hollow spaces, it effectively prevents unwanted vibration within the chassis. Compared to the T1, the glass platter is thicker & heavier which ensures a zero-resonance design that eliminates the shortcomings associated with plastic or cheap steel alternatives. Purpose-selected turntable feet effectively isolate the T2 from ambient vibrations in the vicinity of your hi-fi system.

Speed Control, Motor & Drive

The T2’s motor and drive system remain identical to those found in the T1. The motor drives the flat belt that in turn drives the anti-resonant sub-platter. The sub-platter is mounted to an ultra-precise main bearing comprised of a hardened steel axle in brass bushing (machined to a tolerance of 0.001mm!). Where most alternative products use unregulated DC motors with wide speed fluctuations, the T2 uses our electronically-regulated precision-speed AC motor. Electronic speed change between 33 and 45rpm is accessible with the rocker switch as well! All told, it’s a highly-stable & ultra-low-noise drive system.

Tonearm & Anti-Skating

The T2’s tonearm has been improved for better cartridge geometry. Still a one-piece aluminum design, its effective length improves to 9″. It adds an updated low-friction bearing to accommodate the increased length and diameter for absolute accuracy in use. Aside from clean aesthetics, the integrated headshell is a key player in minimizing armtube resonance (bonded headshells have adverse effects in terms of resonance). The T2 also features user-friendly spring-based anti-skating for fast and accurate setup. Since the Sumiko Rainier is factory-aligned with the tracking force set, simply turn the wheel to your desired value and you’re done with tonearm adjustments!

Sumiko Rainier MM Phono Cartridge

The T2 includes the acclaimed high-value Sumiko Rainier MM phono cartridge which synergizes beautifully with the sonic characteristics of the turntable. The cartridge is factory-aligned with the tracking force set! Remember that the Rainier can be easily upgraded to the Olympia, Moonstone or Wellfleet with the simple swap of a stylus.

Semi-Balanced Phono Cable

Like the T1, the T2 Super Phono is topped-off with shielded, semi-symmetrical, low-capacitance phono cables purpose-designed by Pro-Ject for use with turntables. We also include an acrylic dust cover with adjustable hinges for your convenience. Everything you need is in the box and can be assembled in minutes!

True Balanced Capable

The T2 uses gold-plated RCA outputs that are wired symmetrically (aka ‘balanced’) in the RCA junction box. Like any other Pro-Ject turntable with RCA phono outputs, it can be run balanced with the appropriate cartridge, cable & phono preamp. This means by upgrading to a MC cartridge or our Pick it PRO Balanced (our specially designed balanced MM cartridge), any of our balanced phono stages as well as a balanced connecting cable, you can capitalize on the advantages our True Balanced Connection has to offer. Audibly this amounts to less noise, greater dynamics, clearer transients and an overall more immersive experience.

I was pleased to see the new complete translation of Picatrix by Dan Attrell and David Porreca released in the Magic in History Series of Penn State Press. Picatrix is central to European astrological magic that it deserves an academic treatment. In addition, the willingness of Penn State Press to release a complete translation of Picatrix shows how things have changed in the past decade and the yeoman work done by mages such as Austin Coppock, Alexander Cummins and Cliff Low to delve deeply into astrological magic. As the translators point out at page 2 this version of Picatrix is, "specifically intended for students and scholars of the history of science and magic" In addition to the complete text of the Latin Picatrix in English translation the translators provide useful historical accounts of the pre-history of Picatrix and of the Latin text, Picatrix's exposition of the path of the sage, the use of the terminology nigromancia for astrological magic and the cosmology of Picatrix. Most interesting is a statistical breakdown of the types of magic in Picatrix. Finally, the translators elucidate their view of the importance of psychoactive drugs in ritual, though the translators insist at page 28 that they do not, "wish to suggest that all magic in the Picatrix can be explained away as drug addled delusion…" Coming as it does from an academic perspective, focused on history and social science the Attrell and Porreca translation provides a valuable orientation and background for the contemporary practitioner of astrological magic. No single translation can do justice to a work as complex as Picatrix and anyone who is serious about astrological magic or interested in Picatrix should certainly get a copy of the Attrell and Porreca translation as well as the Greer and Warnock Picatrix and the forthcoming Arabic Picatrix translation.
