INTRODUCTION:

Welcome to the Conduct an Organisational Work Health & Safety (WHS) Audit course. This course only includes a challenge assessment designed to assess your knowledge and skills required to demonstrate competence in preparing, planning, conducting, documenting, reporting and finalising organisational WHS audit activities according to audit scope, objectives, benchmark criteria, lead auditor guidance, organisational documentation, selected audit tools and stakeholder consultation requirements.

Conducting an organisational WHS audit involves defining the audit scope and objectives, obtaining relevant WHS documentation, arranging resources and schedules, developing audit plans, confirming audit roles, selecting suitable tools and gathering WHS information, data and records through structured evidence collection and consultation. This work is important because WHS audits help organisations assess whether WHS arrangements, risk controls and risk management processes are operating as intended, while ensuring uncontrolled hazards, discrepancies, evidence reliability, audit findings and recommendations are identified, documented and communicated through appropriate audit meetings and final reporting processes.

The course assessment focuses on your ability to prepare for a WHS audit by defining scope, objectives and benchmark criteria under lead auditor guidance; identify and obtain relevant organisational documentation; arrange resources, timing, schedules and responsibilities; develop, consult on, finalise and distribute audit plans; confirm own role and lead auditor role in planning and tool selection; identify and assess audit tool suitability; ensure tools support consistent audit outcomes; review, trial and modify tools for efficient evidence collection; undertake preliminary meetings and work area familiarisation; gather WHS information, data and records using tools and consultation; report uncontrolled hazards and assessed risks; note discrepancies in controls and risk management arrangements; check reliability and validity of audit evidence; conduct exit meetings; and compare results against benchmarks and document final findings, recommendations and outcomes.

By successfully completing this course assessment, you will have demonstrated that you can conduct an organisational WHS audit by preparing audit plans, confirming roles and benchmark criteria, selecting and applying suitable audit tools, gathering and checking WHS evidence, consulting stakeholders, identifying hazards and discrepancies, conducting audit meetings and documenting final findings, recommendations and outcomes.
