COURSE OVERVIEW:

Welcome to the Infection Control in Aged Care course. This program will equip you with the essential knowledge, preventive strategies, and workplace practices required to protect residents, staff, and visitors from infection risks in aged care environments. You will explore how infections arise, how they spread, and how rigorous infection control measures reduce illness, complications, and outbreaks. This course also explains the organisational responsibilities, staff procedures, and resident-centred care practices that support a safe and healthy aged care facility.

This course begins by examining what is meant by infection control and the strategies that form an overall infection control approach in residential aged care settings. You will explore the role of infection control education, the aims and objectives of infection control programs, and what facility management must do to maintain effective infection control. This section also explains the key principles of infection control, the source, transmission, and spread of infection, and the elements involved in the transmission of infectious agents. You will explore examples of infection reservoirs within facilities, the ways disease-producing micro-organisms exit a reservoir, and the means by which pathogens are transmitted.

This section also examines how micro-organisms enter susceptible people, the routes of transmission, and the concepts of exogenous infection and endogenous infection. You will learn how cross infection can occur from one resident or staff member to others, how airborne transmission can be prevented, and the common organisms involved in self-infection along with their usual body sites. This section concludes with the principles of infection prevention, how infections are commonly acquired in residential aged care facilities, when standard precautions must be used, and key infection control concerns such as MRSA and VRE, including how enterococcal bacteria are spread person-to-person.

The next learning area focuses on infection control procedures and practices in aged care centres. You will explore staff-centred procedures that form the foundation of safe work practices, including the requirements for routine and clinical handwashing and the correct use of protective clothing. This section also examines equipment-oriented procedures, including how to safely handle equipment, how to dispose of sharps, and the procedures for collecting clinical specimens. You will also explore how to manage spills of biological material using approved cleaning and disinfection processes that reduce risk and prevent wider contamination.

A further part of the program examines resident-centred procedures and infection prevention within direct care activities. You will learn the infection control procedures for enteral feeding, including maintaining cleanliness of equipment and protecting residents from contamination. This section also explains the correct care of gastrostomy tubes, infection prevention principles associated with indwelling urinary catheters, and the procedures required for safe and hygienic condom drainage. These topics highlight the importance of maintaining sterile or aseptic technique, recognising signs of infection, and following organisational protocols for resident care.

By the end of this course you will be able to understand how infections occur and spread in aged care facilities, apply infection control principles and standard precautions, follow staff-centred and equipment-based procedures correctly, support residents through safe clinical care practices, and contribute to a facility-wide culture of infection prevention that protects vulnerable individuals and maintains a safe care environment.

Work well, no bad skin reactions

I can't believe what a great deal these are! It's less than $7 (as an add-on buy) for two packets. I had already bought this brand once before so I knew they'd work for me. They remove make-up pretty well. I don't think they are the very best of all time, but they are up there with the other brands I've tried. This product states that it has no artificial dyes or perfumes. These points are really important. Any fragrance that is added to beauty products can irritate your skin, which has happened to me in the past. I do detect the slightest scent, though. It's actually rather pleasant. I think there's still a slight residue of mascara left over after using the wipes pretty thoroughly, so I only gave them 4 stars. Your experience may differ as the packaging promises to remove all makeup residue. Maybe I'm not using them properly? I have very sensitive skin and I didn't break out or otherwise react poorly to these. They do the job as well as I think can be expected for facial wipes so I bought them again. I really hope the claims to being simply formulated are true. I have a healthy scepticism of the beauty industry. My experience with these wipes has been positive so I will take it on faith that they live up to their advertising as far as having no unnecessary additives. One more thing: I like the idea of the added vitamins. It always cracks me up when facial cleansers advertise the addition of helpful vitamins. How can they help when you're immediately rinsing them back off your face? The addition of any vitamins to regular liquid cleansers is just a waste. They do nothing for you. That being said, when they are added to facial wipes, they are spread on your skin and stay there, since you don't generally rinse after using wipes. In this way of cleaning, you may actually be reaping some benefit from the added vitamins.

Great product with unexpected results and skincare benefits
Size: 25 Count (Pack of 1)
I have been reading about Micellar water products for a couple of years, and finally purchased these wipes to try. I am currently working very long hours and the selling point for these wipes was that they weren't soap-based, and didn't require a toner after using. I keep them on my night stand and take my makeup off with them prior to going to bed. (I do not use them for removing mascara - I use another product for that.) The biggest point I want to share is that I have been using these wipes exclusively for makeup removal for a little more than two weeks. I have had a stubborn blackhead on my nose for a good 20 years that wouldn't budge, no matter how often I used exfoliating products, and I've invested a lot of money in high end exfoliators in an attempt to make that spot go away. It has grown larger over the years, and was a skincare peeve of mine. I noticed a couple of days ago that that blackhead is beginning to break down and get smaller. I thought at first that I was imagining it, but that blackhead is honestly a good two-thirds gone. This is just from using these wipes! I would never have predicted that something this simple and quite soft and insubstantial as a disposable face wipe would have such effective results for blackhead breakdown, but they're doing the trick. I have noticed smaller blackheads on my chin area are also melting away. I predict that in another few weeks of use, my skin is going to be as close to blackhead-free as it is humanly possible to achieve. (For the record, I don't have a lot of blackheads - just a handful that have taken up residence over the years and refused to budge, getting larger with age.) These are safe for my sensitive skin, and have exfoliating benefits that I wouldn't ever have expected or predicted. Full disclosure: I do spend a good 3-5 minutes using a single wipe on my face, neck, and décolletage, scrubbing with the nubby side (there is a nubby, exfoliating side, and smooth side to each wipe) and using the whole cloth in sections until I have used it all. Finally, I also use it on the tops of my hands. I definitely get my money's worth out of each wipe! I wholeheartedly encourage people to try this product. I now have it on Auto-Ship status, as I don't want to ever be without these wipes in my skincare arsenal.
