Each model is available in 440 Hz or 432 Hz tuning.

440 Hz is commonly used for ensemble playing and many school music programs.
432 Hz is slightly lower in pitch and is often chosen for solo play or some Waldorf and folk music settings.

Because wooden wind instruments are not sealed and cannot be hygienically sanitized without damaging the wood, all wooden wind instruments are final sale once sold. Please confirm the correct interval and tuning with your child’s teacher before ordering.

Why Waldorf Schools Begin with the Interval Flute

In Waldorf education, the interval flute is often introduced in kindergarten to help children:

• develop awareness of breath and tone
• listen deeply to musical intervals
• experience harmony through simple musical relationships
• make music together successfully without complex fingering

As children grow, they typically move on to the pentatonic flute in Grades 1–2, followed by diatonic flutes and recorders in later grades.

Caring for a Wooden Flute

Regular oiling helps protect the pearwood, preserve resonance, and keep the flute from drying over time, especially during the first year of use. We highly recommend adding on a small bottle of wooden flute care oil to protect your investment and preserve resonance. 

Use only Choroi flute oil or organic jojoba oil; oils made for metal flutes are not suitable for wooden instruments.

Care guidelines

• Oil the flute upon arrival, then at least 1-2 times per month (oil not included)
• Use a lint-free cotton cloth or strip for oiling
• Swab the inside with the included leather swab after each use to remove moisture
• Store in the included cotton bag, away from heat and extreme dryness

A well-cared-for flute will remain resonant and beautiful for many years.
