Pure Tung Oil comes from the cold pressing of the seeds or nuts of the Tung tree. Tung trees mainly grow in the mountainous regions of China away from industrialization and pollution. Climate, soil and air quality are essential for high-quality oil. Our 100% Pure Chinese Tung Oil or China wood oil is an all-natural finish manufactured by pressing the tung nut, no petroleum distillates or other additives - just Pure Tung Oil. All Pure Tung Oils are not the same. Some low priced marketers will package South American Tung Oil (dark, greenish) and sell it is as the higher quality Chinese Tung Oils. Chinese Pure Tung Oil is available in 3 grades, we only offer the best available, Grade 1 yellow. A better quality Pure Chinese Tung Oil will offer superior color, faster drying, and a long term elastic finish. Elasticity is an important factor as the oil must continue to flex with the expansion and contraction of the substrate on which it is applied.

Pure Tung Oil is ASTM Quality Tested to be light in color with the highest amount of reactive sites to ensure drying.

How Fresh is our Pure Tung Oil? All of our Pure Tung Oils are "fresh" pumped from a drum just before shipping.

For new wood floors and refinishing wood floors, applications of Pure Tung Oil must be thinned. See "Floor Finishing and Pure Tung Oil".

Always test your application method before full application to a large project.

Colors/Options

The color of wood finished with Pure Tung Oil will vary based on the wood species. Dark Tung Oil is also available (see related items below). Please see this chart comparing Pure and Dark Tung Oil for a picture of different woods before and after finishing with Pure or Dark Tung Oil.

Technical Data

Pure Tung Oil is approved for food contact by the FDA.

Reference: Gunstock Finishing and Care by Donald Newell, Bailey's Industrial Oil, and Fat Products - Vol. 1 - 4th edition. Keep containers tightly closed away from extreme temperature changes and open flames. As with all oils, rags, steel wool or waste soaked with oil, may spontaneously catch fire if improperly discarded. Immediately after use, place the oil-soaked material in a sealed water-filled metal container or hang outside separately to dry.

Suggested Use

Pure Tung Oil is recommended for wood finishing of kitchen tables, chopping blocks, wood, and concrete countertops, wood floors, concrete floors, refinishing wood floors, outdoor decks, outdoor furniture, wood siding, log homes both interior and exterior and similar uses. Its non-toxic nature makes it particularly appropriate for children's toys and furniture. It gives good protection to wood paneling and molding.

We have found tung oil to be a valuable helper in the workshop. It adheres very well to metal, and a light coat rubbed onto tool steel is an effective rust inhibitor. Wooden handles will also benefit from the occasional coat. The surface should be dusted to remove all loose particles. Alternatively, you can lightly sand the first coat before applying a second. Any filling, sealing or staining must be done before the oil is applied. The first coat should be a liberal one, and you can rub it over the wood with your hand, a soft rag. Allow this application to sit for 20 minutes so the oil can soak in, then remove any excess with clean soft rags. Check after about half an hour for any seeping, and rub this off as well. Let dry completely (24-48 hours) between coats. For woods with very open pores, allow an extra 24 hours drying time.

Tung oil can be applied pure or with Citrus Solvent added. Thinners such as Citrus Solvent can accelerate the drying process and greatly improve penetration.

Ingredients/Composition

A Pure Tung Oil all-natural finish is water and alkali resistant offering a protective barrier. A Pure Tung Oil finish will not darken with age as other finishes will. It resists marring, penetrates well, remains elastic and unlikely to check. Tung oil builds quickly, consolidates the wood surface and builds a transparent matte finish. Pure Tung Oil finish will not mildew or bleed like linseed oil when dry which makes it an excellent candidate for outdoor finishes. It should be kept in an airtight container with minimum air space. Pure Tung Oil contains no thinners or driers and has a light nutty odor. A Pure Tung Oil finish mixed with Citrus Solvent is an all-natural organic finish that is environmentally safe and food safe.

Benefits and Certifications

Tung Oil History: Pure Tung Oil (China wood oil) is an all-natural finishing product that provides a tough, flexible and highly water-resistant coating. It is classed as a drying oil along with linseed, poppy seed, safflower seed, walnut, soybean, oiticica, and a few other oils. Although it is relatively new to the Western world, tung oil also known as China wood oil has been known for centuries to the Chinese, and until this century, China was the main source for the oil. It comes from the seed of the tung trees, Aleurites fordii and Aleurites Montana, deciduous trees that are very susceptible to frost damage. This vulnerability has restricted the cultivation of the tung trees to China and South America. Tung oil (China wood oil ) received a wide application in China: in the building trades as a treatment for both stone and wooden structures; in marine trades as a preservative and water repellant on wooden boats. It is said to have been introduced to the West by Marco Polo. From the 13th to the 19th century, tung oil had only limited use in the West. More recently, tung oil has gained favor over linseed oil for wood finishing because it is faster drying and does not darken as much with age.

Application/Coverage

The number of coats of oil to be applied will be determined by the intended use of the piece. Two to four coats are enough for decorative work, paneling and molding. Surfaces that receive moderate to heavy use or handling could need up to six coats for maximum protection, plus a light renewal coat a couple of times a year. Apply until the surface reaches the saturation point. This will be evident as the surface will not absorb more oil. Renewal and building coats are quickly applied with cheesecloth, a lint-free cloth or old nylon stockings. This process will give you a surface that will stand up to vigorous use and spills: water will bead on the surface.

lightweight, did not irritate my skin
I have been using this ampoule for about 3 weeks now and I like how it makes my skin feel. It doesn't feel harsh, my skin didn't seem to mind it because it didn't look or feel irritated after the 3 weeks of use. I am not solely using this product as my night time moisturizer but it is an addition to my other moisturizer. It is easy to apply, doesn't feel heavy, sticky, or tacky. I can't say how this works for existing blemishes and imperfections because I am mainly using this as a prevention. I recently had some of my sun spots laser-ed so I am trying to keep any additional sun spots from appearing again, which is why it is so important for me to keep up with the prevention routine. This product is excellent for that. I did take a look at the ingredients list and while I'm fine with most of it, I did notice there is a silicone in this. I try to avoid silicones but I'm not going to say it is a dealbreaker. All in all I like this product and will keep using this until I'm done with the entire bottle. I didn't see the ingredients list posted on this page yet so here it is, in case you need to see what's in this serum before making the decision to purchase. Ingredients: Water, Butylene Glycol, Phenyl Trimethicone, Niacinamide, Tranexamic Acid, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Polyglyceryl-6 Dicaprate, Arginine, Carbomer, Ethylhexylglycerin, Adenosine, Astaxanthin(100000ppb), Melia Azadirachta Flower Extract, Melia Azadirachta Leaf Extract, Betaine, Ocimum Sanctum Leaf Extract, Corallina Officinalis Extract, Coccinia Indica Fruit Extract, Curcuma Longa (Turmeric)Root Extract, Ascorbic Acid, Tocopherol, Thioctic Acid, Thermus Thermophillus Ferment, Glycerin, Potassium Sorbate

So far, loving this! I have super sensitive skin and it's causing no issues!
This serum is really nice and easy to apply! It’s on the thin side, so I like to tilt my head upwards and gently release a drop or 2 at a time onto my face. Rub it in from there. If you drop this into your hand to apply first, you’ll be wasting a lot of product, so don’t go that route. I do have some sun spots I’m looking to tackle, so hopefully this will help with those! I also live in a city with high levels of pollution, so I can use all the antioxidants I can get! I'm excited to see if this helps with some sun damage and spots that I've accumulated over the years.

Absorbs quickly
I like this ampoule. It has a nice gel-like viscosity and absorbs quickly into my skin and has not caused any irritation. I like that it has no smell. Since I have been using it, I have noticed a general lightening of the dark spots on my cheeks. I have noticed that my skin tone looks brighter since I have started using this. I will continue to use this ampoule in hopes of seeing even more improvement. Overall, I am very happy with this ampoule and think it does a good job of evening out my skin tone and lightening dark spots I have on my face making my skin look brighter, in general.

Does nothing for my skin
I have been using this for a little over a month and this has done nothing for my skin. For the price, I'm disappointed, I expected to see at least some little results after 1 month but nothing for me. I will not purchase again.

Its fine... but didnt really work for me.
No negative side effects, but I just didn't find it to lighten the areas I was hoping for. ** Hi a little about me and my reviews. I regularly review skin care products and have a base line for my reviewing process. Firstly I have very dry, sensitive and aging skin. I prefer oil based products, and I prefer something with a natural scent like lavender, rose, rosemary. I try to keep my reviews concise but I wanted to share my star ratings as I see them. 5 Stars - Would use every day. Great product, does great things! 4 Stars- Great Product but not for everyday use, 2-3 days per week or spa day special. 3 Stars- Not great, not awful, just ok. 2 Stars- Not good, but not injurious 1 Star- Terrible, burns, or unsafe product
