World premiere: Shanghai/China, Symphony Hall, October 16, 2022 Commissioned by Liu Wenwen

From the Tang Dynasty to the present day, many artists, including BAI Xingjian (776 - 826), GUAN Hanqing (ca.1234 - 1300) and REN Tongxiang (1927 - 2002), have compared the name "A Rose" to an ordinary, tiny but vibrant, rich and intense life and love. Sensing the spirit that runs through the long-lasting "A Rose", Shen Ye also composed this concerto for Suona and orchestra, in which the humour and laughter of the people served as his inspiration. Virtuoso Liu Wenwen, conductor Zhang Liang and Shen Ye worked together to find the expressive techniques and interactive correlation between Suona and orchestra, giving A Rose a new soul and breath.

The Suona Concerto A Rose was commissioned by Liu Wenwen and premiered by her with Zhang Liang and the Shanghai Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra in October 2022.
