Coffee farmers are filtered out of access to resources and markets, receiving a living wage, and the industry. To us, filter coffee not people means highlighting the work of coffee producers, listening to their stories, and working to create equity in the coffee supply chain. Good coffee is not possible without the hard work of smallholder coffee farmers, but too often they are left out of the story– filter coffee, not people.
Filter Coffee Not People was originally coined in solidarity with immigrants and refugees in response to the Trump administration’s 2017 executive order. The executive order banned immigrants, refugees, dual citizens, and green card holders from seven different muslim-majority countries from entering the United States.
