About the work

Susan Hefuna’s edition for Whitechapel Gallery is one in a series of ‘Cityscapes’, made previously in Istanbul and New York. Cityscape Munich, 2015 is an etching made by the artist in Munich and, for Hefuna, is a direct response to her surroundings. She describes arriving at Munich train station at a time when the station was crowded with Syrian refugees and children entering Germany from Austria. The colour blue is significant for it is found all over Munich, as the colour of Bavaria. For Hefuna it is important that the print is composed with the same directness as her drawings. Instead of the image deriving from an existing sketch, the artist has drawn directly onto two etching plates in two layers, which are then printed. This process, for Hefuna, captures the ‘freshness of the moment’.

About the artist

Through photography, drawing, sculpture, video and site-specific installations, Hefuna examines notions of boundaries, networks and structures that inhabit public space. More specifically, she examines how these systems become the framework for peoples’ interactions with each other, made visible through – amongst other things – cultural customs, architectural modes and city planning. Many of her compositions recall crude weaves or embroidery, molecular structures, or the intricacies of traditional wooden mashrabiya screens from Cairo. Hefuna’s personal encounters and experiences often surface as an influence in or as the subject of her work. Growing up in a Christian and Muslim household and between Germany and Egypt, Hefuna’s diverse affinities come through in the way she composes her work.

Strong and holds up to aggressive chewing
Color: Blue, Color: Blue
This was a fast favorite for our extremely aggressive chewer ('indestructible' toys are typically destroyed within hours)... this has survived about a week and still going strong.

My dog is a very aggressive chewer.
Color: Blue
My dog is an aggressive chewer and this lasted about 3 weeks before he started to get into the plastic and I had to throw away. It lasted longer than other chew toys so it was good. However the tail makes it easier for him to chew off into pieces. He gets nervous and needs to chew on something. I find the hard cheese sticks a better option for his nervousness.

From Puppy Teething to Adult Favorite – 7 Years Later
Color: Teething Stick, Color: Teething Stick
This has been one of the best toys I’ve ever bought! My dog has loved the Pupstages Cool Teething Stick since she was a tiny puppy, and now at 7 years old, it’s still one of her absolute favorites. It’s been amazing for soothing teething when she was little, and now she still enjoys chewing on it and carrying it around. It’s held up surprisingly well over the years, especially considering how much use it’s gotten. I also love that you can cool it for extra relief—it really helped during those puppy stages. If you’re looking for a toy that lasts and actually becomes a long-term favorite, this is definitely it. Highly recommend for both puppies and even older dogs who still love a good chew! 🐶

LOVE this tough toy! My teething puppy is still enjoying it!
Color: Hedgehog
LOVE the hedgehog! Very tough! My dachshund has not been able to chew off any of the 'nubs', and does she try! lol The only thing is, the first thing she did was chew off the nose, but I discarded it and watched her closely to make sure she didn't chew off any more, and no, its still being chewed on. Wish I could find more toys like this one!!

Perfect First Toy for Tiny Puppies – Lightweight, Engaging, and a Great Value
Color: Teething Stick, Color: Teething Stick
This Cool Teething Stick has been the absolute best first toy for our 1.5 pound puppy! It’s incredibly lightweight, making it easy for even the tiniest pups to pick up, carry, and play with independently. The soft crinkle sound keeps him entertained without being overwhelming, and the little ribbon ends plus the triangular shapes add just the right amount of texture and interest. For the quality, design, and how much joy it brings, the price is unbeatable. At $4.99, this is an easy must-buy for anyone with a young or very small puppy. Highly recommend for a tiny puppy. I do think the durability could be an issue for a large puppy. Keep in mind this puppy is under 2 pounds.
