Tasting Note

Deep ruby in the glass with a nose of mulberry, bresaola, blue fruits and earthy spice. The palate opens with plush plum, dark cherry and berry fruit, layered with dark chocolate, purple flowers, olive tapenade and a dusting of cedar. Medium to full bodied, it balances richness with restraint—gravelly tannins and bright acidity lend structure and tension. Cool, savoury and complex with a long, dry finish.

A beautifully presented Shiraz with a strong back, great length and a well-fleshed belly.

Halliday Wine Companion

I like this little wine. There's plenty of deep, plush plum and berry fruits, spice, dark chocolatey stuff, olive tapenade, softly spoken cedar, purple flowers and earth going on. You expect it to be quite full throttle, but it leans back against its fruit power. It tastes cool in the mouth. Savoury ending too, with fine, silty tannins and bright acidity. Nice one.

The Real Review

Deep ruby red in the glass. Mulberry, dry dark earth and bresaola aromatics. Medium to full, with rich blue fruits that have been very well matched to earth and ferrous savoury characters. Tannins have a gravelly character that accentuates the savoury lines and it runs long and drying to the finish.

The Story

Field Marshall was the prized porker in the stable. Shiraz the prized grape in our Barossa vineyard. Being a ‘studly’ boar, ‘FM’ was the focus of many a fair lady’s attentions. In that vein, we have made a wine befitting the Chris Hemsworth of the porcine world. Both intense and richly flavoursome, but also having restraint, tension and elegance. Field Marshall (aka ‘Chris’) was quite the gentle character… unlike that utter bastard Jake (another boar) who used to scare the crap out of me as a kid.

Whilst Shiraz is said to define the Barossa as a wine region, it is a highly versatile beast and can be made in any style that is desired. For this wine we have chosen to go down the sensual and elegant path. A melange of bright red and brooding dark flavours, complex savoury and oaken elements and fine structure. A wine of classic beauty and elegance in the way of Bridgette Bardot, but equally voluptuous and upfront like Raquel Welch. Call me old-fashioned if you will, but I’m a fan of the classics.

Made from estate-grown Shiraz harvested in the cool of the night. We hired a saxophone player to play Careless Whispers all night to the grapes to make them even cooler, and fermented them in open fermenters at low temperatures to ensure the delicate aromatics were retained. Aged in seductive, mature French oak barrels for 15 months and bottled without fining. Best enjoyed with hand-fed chocolate truffles in front of a fireplace on a bearskin rug with your loved one, Phil Collins on the stereo.

The glow doesn’t last long, not super bright.
Style: Recharges, Size: Medium
I charge my glow in the dark balls with a black light flashlight, this one was not very bright, and it did not hold the charge very long. Also, with it being green, it was hard for my dog to find in the grass.

Good grip glow ball
Style: Recharges, Size: Medium
Love this glow in the dark Chuck IT. Get a black light flashlight to charge the neon instantly. Good texture gives the dog better grip than the smooth all white glow in the dark chuck it balls.

Our German Sheppard loves these
Size: Medium
These cost a bit more than tennis balls, but they are so much nicer and longer lasting. For starters, they stay cleaner than tennis balls because they’re smooth rubber. Dirt won’t build up on them and if anything does stick, like grass or soil, it falls off once the dog slobber dries. They’re also thick, so they don’t fall apart or blow out like a normal tennis ball does in our dog’s jaws after 30 seconds. Our GS chomps on these like crazy and the only damage they’ve suffered is a crack that developed from the edge of the hole, but the crack is growing very slowly and none of these balls have totally failed yet. The balls do whistle when thrown ant high speed and that may help a dog track and locate it, but I’m not sure. Our neighbors hear the whistling too so it’s far from silent. Lastly the orange ball is easy to locate out in our yard, but the dark blue practically disappears.
