The recalled first pressing of HEART’s “MAGAZINE” — effectively their second album — makes its long-awaited debut on pressed CD!
Following the release of their debut album Dreamboat Annie, HEART switched record labels from Mushroom Records to Portrait. However, in 1977, both labels released new HEART albums: Portrait released Little Queen, while Mushroom issued Magazine — without the band’s approval.
HEART filed a lawsuit claiming Magazine was an unfinished work and succeeded in having its release halted. As a result, the original first pressing was withdrawn and recalled. Nonetheless, due to contractual obligations to deliver one more album for Mushroom, HEART reworked Magazine — with overdubs, remixes, and changes to the track order — and released the revised version in 1978.
This original recalled edition differs significantly from the official 1978 release — not only in the mixes, but in some cases even the recording takes. Additionally, the two live tracks are presented in unedited, extended versions. Due to its controversial history, the album has never been reissued or released on CD — making this pressed CD edition a long-awaited collector’s item.
This release is carefully transferred from a well-preserved LP, with 99% of scratch noise removed and no compression or limiting applied, preserving the authentic original sound. On top of that, seven bonus tracks are included: two single versions from the same album never released on CD, three mono mixes originally issued only on promo records, and two tracks from the now very hard-to-find California Jam 2 (1978) compilation.
An ideal collector’s edition that thoroughly covers this rare and pivotal era in HEART’s history — finally available in the perfect form!
