As we planned the Cloud Communications Summit, we wanted to do more than put on a show for a dayÕs entertainment. We wanted to connect a community of people working on the same area of communications. To support that, we asked our speakers and a few industry thought leaders to submit a short essay on Cloud Communications. Our purpose was threefold. First, we wanted to aggregate the thought leaders together to compare notes and to establish what the state of the art was in January 2010. Secondly, we wanted to create a more permanent source of information than the ephemeral words on a tradeshow floor Ð one that we could share with the wider world. Finally, if thereÕs an underlying theme of cloud technologies, itÕs democratization. As individuals become empowered, we need new and better ways of communicating critical insight and information to practitioners in the field, and not from large companies, but from human beings.
