Written by Eleanor Farjeon, with introduction by Peter Robinson, illustrated with the original woodcuts by Sheila M. Thompson.

Eleanor Farjeon’s collection of poems A Sussex Alphabet was first published in 1924 as a series of articles for the West Sussex Gazette. The poems were later set to music by her brother Harry and then, in 1939, appeared together in book form as an exquisite limited edition, a facsimile of which appears here. Farjeon visited Sussex frequently and these verses reflect her deep love and knowledge of the county. Encompassing characters, folklore and landscape they create an enchanting blend of fantasy, realism and humour – brilliantly capturing the essence of this unique and exhilarating county. Gypsies, shepherds and literary giants all appear between these pages, along with towns, villages and the peculiarities of local dialect. An excerpt from her 1918 poem All The Way To Alfriston, now one of the most visited villages in Britain, rounds off this stylish volume. As we ramble around the Sussex countryside today, we can still see much of what Farjeon saw and wrote about nearly 100 years ago. We hope this charming collection will reawaken an interest in her work and encourage you to visit the places that inspired these delightful verses.

Key Points:

  • A facsimile capturing the essence of Sussex as it was one hundred years ago.
  • Eleanor Farjeons’ creative ramble across the South Downs celebrated in 26 poems.

  • A lasting testament to Sussex.

Great, well-fitting basic!
Color: Beige, Size: Medium
I love, love, love these basic tanks. They fit true to size. They’re really soft and comfortable and they’re such a great value. I have them in at least five or six colors. They look great on their own or under a cardigan.

Light weight, not thick or bulky, versatile, and perfect!
Color: White, Size: Small
Throw out all the tank tops you own cause this is the only tank top you will need from here on out. It is absolutely perfect. Let’s just say they understood the assignment. It is form fitting and pairs perfectly with lightweight sweaters that might be slightly sheer or even the new crochet type of open sweaters that need a tank underneath. It is the perfect stretch, perfect material and dressy enough to be worn on its own and upgraded with some jewelry and some classy jeans and has just enough sheen to look dressy and not like you’re wearing a workout top. I love , love this and it is my go to tank!

Comfortable, flattering wardrobe staple
Color: White, Size: Small, Color: White, Size: Small
I’ve tried a lot of basics, and this ANRABESS sleeveless scoop neck tank exceeded expectations. The fabric feels soft and breathable with a nice amount of stretch, and it has a flattering fit without being too tight or restrictive. The scoop neckline is classic and versatile, making it easy to layer or wear on its own. Stitching and construction appear well made, and it held up nicely after washing with no shrinking or loss of shape. Great quality for a basic essential, and a piece I can see reaching for often. Highly recommend.

The length is perfect. Nice and long.
Color: Yellow, Size: X-Large
These tanks are the perfect length. I love how they fit and feel. I bought these in 5 colors. Although, if you want to keep them long, I suggest hanging them to dry. Putting them in the dryer shrinks the length about 2 inches.

Great Tank Top
Color: White, Size: Large
I love this top. It fits snug and is comfortable. The length is perfect. I especially like the wide shoulder straps which hides my bra straps. I’ll order more of these in different colors.
