#37 – 20” Long 5/16” Diameter Double Bend Shaved J Reverse Adjustable Handle Tool | PDR Finesse

The #37 Double Bend Shaved J Upper Brace Hook Tool from PDR Finesse is an essential, versatile addition to the professional paintless dent repair (PDR) technician’s toolkit. At 20 inches long with a 5/16-inch diameter shaft, this tool blends precision engineering and functional design to reach challenging dents that standard rods simply can’t access. Its unique double bend shaved J shape and reverse adjustable straight handle allow it to work efficiently on both right and left sides, making it indispensable for upper brace and hard-to-reach panel repairs.

Product Overview: Design and Purpose

The #37 tool stands out for its ability to reach dents in difficult locations, including around door mirrors and near the front edge of vehicle doors. Its ultra-thin shaved profile allows access where bulkier tools would get stuck, while retaining the strength necessary for hard driving pushes on stubborn dents.

  • Length: 20 inches, offering a balance between reach and control.

  • Diameter: 5/16 inch, slim yet strong for durable dent pushing.

  • Shape: Double bend with a shaved J upper brace hook, designed specifically to navigate upper braces and tight body lines.

  • Handle: Reverse adjustable straight handle enables easy switching between right and left side use, doubling the tool’s versatility.

  • Reach: Hook extends 4 inches from bottom to tip, allowing access around door mirrors and other tough spots.

  • Material: Hardened, heat-treated steel with a precision shave for slim clearance and solid pushing power.

This tool was crafted by experienced PDR technicians who understand the demands of everyday dent repair work. It quickly became a best seller due to its unparalleled ability to solve hard-to-reach dent challenges.

Why the Double Bend Shaved J Design Matters

The double bend shaved J shape is more than just a distinctive look; it’s a critical feature that provides several advantages:

  • Upper Brace Access: The shaved J hook is sized and shaped to slip easily around upper braces and tight panel structures, unlike straight or simple bent rods.

  • Extended Reach: The 4-inch hook length from bottom to tip allows technicians to push dents far inside panel cavities, such as around door mirrors or near front door edges.

  • Slim Profile: The shaved shaft reduces bulk for access in tight spots without sacrificing rigidity or strength.

  • Improved Leverage: The double bend angles allow comfortable wrist positioning for controlled, hard driving pushes without fatigue.

  • Versatility: Effective for upper braces, stake pockets, tops of bedsides, and many other tricky dent locations.

With this design, the #37 offers unmatched reach and control compared to many traditional PDR rods.

Reverse Adjustable Straight Handle: A Game Changer

One of the unique features of the #37 tool is its reverse adjustable straight handle. This handle system is engineered to:

  • Switch Between Right and Left Use: Simply flip or adjust the handle orientation to comfortably work on either side of the vehicle without switching tools.

  • Enhanced Ergonomics: The straight handle provides a solid, balanced grip that reduces wrist strain during prolonged use.

  • Improved Control: By allowing quick adaptation for different panel sides, technicians maintain consistent push technique and precision.

  • Durability: Crafted from heat-treated steel for strength and reliability under heavy use.

This handle flexibility reduces the number of tools techs need, saving space in toolkits while improving efficiency on the job.

Key Applications of the #37 Tool

The #37 excels in a variety of challenging PDR scenarios where typical rods fall short:

  • Around Door Mirrors: The unique J hook shape and slim profile let you push dents located behind or near door mirrors, a notoriously tough area.

  • Near Front Door Edges: This tool accesses dents close to the door’s front edge, where clearance is minimal.

  • Upper Braces and Stake Pockets: Its design allows precise pushing on panel braces and stake pockets, locations that often require special tools.

  • Tight Bedside Tops: Dent removal on pickup truck bedsides is easier with this tool’s reach and shape.

  • Hard-to-Reach Creases and Character Lines: The shaved J hook fits behind panel curves for detailed work on body lines.

Because of this wide applicability, the #37 is a versatile tool that pays for itself repeatedly by solving tough dents that would otherwise require makeshift solutions or excessive labor.

Build Quality and Materials

PDR Finesse manufactures the #37 tool with the highest standards for professional-grade durability and performance:

  • Heat-Treated Steel: The 5/16-inch shaft is hardened and tempered for long life and resistance to bending or wear.

  • Precision Shaving: The shaft’s shaved section is carefully ground for consistent thickness and strength, enabling thin clearance without weakness.

  • Robust Handle: The adjustable handle is crafted for secure grip and resilience, ensuring the tool withstands daily heavy use.

  • Protective Finish: The tool has a corrosion-resistant coating to prevent rust and maintain smooth operation over years of use.

The combination of premium materials and expert craftsmanship means this tool won’t fail when you need it most.

How the #37 Tool Saves Time and Effort

  • Reduces Tool Switching: The reversible handle eliminates the need for separate right- and left-side tools, streamlining your setup.

  • Minimizes Panel Damage: The shaved profile and precise tip reduce the risk of paint scuffs or dents caused by bulky tools.

  • Increases Job Speed: The ability to reach impossible dents means less time spent adjusting or trying alternative methods.

  • Decreases Fatigue: Ergonomic bends and handle design reduce strain, helping you work longer and more comfortably.

  • Boosts Repair Quality: Precise control over pushing pressure and placement results in cleaner, more professional dent removal.

Technicians using the #37 enjoy faster, higher quality repairs with less physical wear.

Tips for Effective Use

  • Handle Adjustments: Familiarize yourself with flipping or adjusting the handle for quick right/left transitions during work.

  • Gentle Approach First: Use the shaved J hook’s slim profile to gently locate dents before applying stronger pressure.

  • Leverage the Bends: Position your wrist comfortably using the double bends to maximize force without overexertion.

  • Maintain the Tool: Clean after each use and inspect for wear to keep the shaved profile and handle mechanism in top shape.

  • Use in Combination: Pair this tool with complementary PDR rods and tips for comprehensive dent repair capability.

Following these tips will extend the life of your #37 tool and optimize your dent repair process.

Maintenance and Care

  • Clean with mild soap and water after use to remove glue and dirt.

  • Avoid dropping or banging the tool to prevent bends or shaft damage.

  • Inspect the adjustable handle mechanism regularly for smooth operation.

  • Store in a padded case or rack to prevent wear on the shaved shaft.

  • Replace or service the handle if looseness develops to maintain control.

Proper maintenance maximizes the tool’s lifespan and reliability.

Great way to control TV and radio in one room from an easy chair in another room!
I help a 96 year old blinded vet with tech support -- and as his health worsens, needed to make his TV, his radio, and the audio switch that selects what audio should go into his hearing aids via Bluetooth work from his easy chair in his living room. All the equipment is in his bedroom. This IR repeater system installed quickly and easily and works perfectly. Now he can summon ball games, news, or whatever he wants without fear of getting up and falling down. A perfect solution!

Magic!!!
I am no tech expert but these little guys are magic! We had just put in a wall of built-ins and desperately wanted to hide our cable box behind a cabinet, but with it being infrared this would not work without these little repeaters! First off I just have to say that the Sewell customer service is off the charts. You actually get to speak to a real person right away, no annoying menu after menu trying to get help. They helped us so much when we hit a couple snags. Here are a couple things that I figured out that I hope will help others. First you can hide both of these little discs, they both come with tiny little eyes that can attach to your tv and cable box or whatever you are trying to use them for, and they are nearly invisible. Second, don’t get nervous when you plug them into the power outlet and the lights don’t come on, this is ok and they aren’t supposed to stay on, they kind of blink here and there, and only when you use your remote. Third, we have an Altice One cable box (not the mini, just a regular cable box) and it was impossible to find the eye to attach the emitter’s eye (Side note: we had to put the emitter disc on top of the cable box because we couldn’t fit the emitter disc pointing in front of cable box. The directions give you both options though and you can basically put it anywhere as long as the eyes attach). The phone trick did not work on this particular cable box. But after trying about a dozen different spots on the front of the box we finally got it to work by putting the eye right on where the digital clock numbers are. I put it basically right on top of the colon (:). Cable vision was no help with this so I hope this can save others from our frustration. After we found the eye everything came together and worked perfectly! No more do we need to keep the cabinet open to change channels… it’s a miracle!!! Hope these little guys work forever.

Good product, expensive price, poor adhesive
Premium packaging for a premium device. Useful for IR remote signal delivery with extra functions on the side. Price though is luxury for it’s use. Used this for a Logitech Harmony hub control of an non-smart electric fireplace. Setup is a breeze but only if you’re tech savvy. Highly recommend to watch the YouTube video for information on all it’s application. There a many other cheaper devices similar to this available on Amazon that I could have used for the same application. If you have a need for multiple control within the same vicinity of other devices, this may be more useful for you. However, if you plan on utilizing an IR repeater/extender for only a single device and would like to save some money, don’t buy this one. This device works quite well though. Have had no issues achieving the effect needed. Only four stars due to the poor adhesive on the emitter attachment. As stated earlier, I used this on an electric fireplace with a glass surface. I used the attachable emitter to the front glass sensor where the IR receiver was located on the fireplace. After only one day, the emitter attachment fell off even though I made sure the glass was thoroughly cleaned prior to adhering it. Otherwise a good product.

Denon avr ir remote port works great with sewell products
I bought a new entertainment center with glass doors and wasn't getting good signal range with the door closed. Plus i couldnt get a good of line site, since this cabinet was shorter than the orginal, and the location for my avr was further to the left than before and now my line of sight to the receiver was blocked from other parts of the room due to high couch back. I tried a couple different cheap $10 devices that used stick on transmitters/receiver buttons but they were clumsy and didn't provide me a total solution for my room layout. Works fantastic with a denon x1800 receiver (and many other models). It works directly with the denon's ir remote port in the back of the avr port. The solution is actually quite simple. Plug a stereo 3.5 mm male to male plug in the denon ir port in the back of the avr and and the other end to the orange emitter box(puck). The pics are about the size of an oreo double stuff cookie Tuck the orange box/puck away whereever and plug the power in. The box doesn't need to seen or be pointed towards anything. It's location is only limited by the length of your stereo cable and access to AC power Put the blue box puck anywhere in the room where you have general line of sight to it from where you will be using your remote, and plug power in. In my case, its sitting on top of one of my tower speakers. From there it clears the back of the couch and can see from the family room, eat-in kitchen area, and the kitchen beyond. Done. I didn't need or use any of the included emitter or transmitter cables, though if you dont have a denon, or other brand avr with an ir port to plug into , or also want to hide the blue puck ( in which case attach the included sensor cable), you'll need them. But for denon users with an ir port, you just use the two pucks and their usb power adapters. Simple.

Worked good then died at six months (Updated)
Worked good for a couple of months, then started to develop a lag between when you pressed a button on the remote, and when the TV would respond. If I moved the speaker blocking the TV’s IR receiver, and pointed the remote at it, it worked perfectly. Add the IR blaster back in and the delay returns. The delay kept getting longer and longer, sometimes 5 to 10 seconds. Then it just died. Would not pass any IR signals, even though the receiver and emitter both had power. Tried rebooting, changing communication channels to no avail. Out of Amazon return window. Manufacturer wants you do go through a troubleshooting process for warranty that is too complicated and time consuming. Customer Service Rep at Sewell send me a warranty replacement.
