The Time of Meteors is a two colour reduction block linocut print printed on Fabriano Rosaspina 280gsm paper in oil based prussian blue and metallic silver ink.

”This print has been inspired by medieval illustrations found in 'herbals' which were books depicting plants and their uses, and medieval illuminated manuscripts. The subject matter is drawn directly from tulips that I grew myself for the first time this year. I began researching into 'Tulip Mania' in the Dutch Golden Age, where tulip bulbs could be bought for the price of a house. The meteors flying around tell something of this extraordinary time, as meteors and comets were viewed as auspicious, and the bringer of strange events.”

This is a variable edition which means there are a few different colour combinations of this print. The silver is metallic so shines in ambient light.

Image size: 16.5 x 23 cm.
Paper size: 23 x 31 cm.
Variable edition of 4, numbered, signed and dated with 'E.V.' (meaning edition variable).

A lover of the natural world, Cally's prints are inspired by nature and folklore. She is based in London, but is constantly drawn to the beauty of nature and its place within the world. She began producing etchings and collagraphs at art college, and came to linocut printmaking much later. She really fell in love with the process of linocut; something about the carved line as a way to translate her sketches, and to explore pattern and texture.
