A handsome late Victorian tie pin dating to 1895, set with a marquise-cut amethyst framed by a border of seed pearls. The pin bears Swedish hallmarks including the letter M for Malmö, the maker's mark GD&Co for Gustav Dahlgren & Co, the Swedish Crown mark and the date letter R6, corresponding to 1895.

The elegant navette-shaped design was highly fashionable during the late nineteenth century, appearing in rings, brooches and stick pins alike. The rich violet amethyst contrasts beautifully with the soft lustre of the surrounding seed pearls, creating a refined and balanced design.

Amethysts have long been associated with wisdom, clarity and protection and remain the birthstone for February. Pearls, meanwhile, symbolised purity and sincerity, making this a combination that appealed greatly to nineteenth-century jewellers.

Stick pins were an essential part of a gentleman's wardrobe during the Victorian era, worn in ties and cravats as both a practical accessory and a subtle display of taste. Today they are appreciated as fascinating survivors of a more formal age and make excellent collector's pieces. This example is particularly appealing as both the head and pin are hallmarked, something that is becoming increasingly uncommon. The use of 18ct gold is an added attraction, as many surviving stick pins were produced in lower carat gold or base metal.

Not the best, but not the worst either
Format: Hardcover
By any means not the funniest book in the series, only the one on Krusty the Clown was more un-funny; but still a worthy addition to your collection and, just like all the others from the series providing a retrospective of anecdotes you might have forgotten.

Not that great
Huge "The Simpsons" fan. I watched all the episodes and read a lot of the comics and enjoy most. This one however was quite boring. Turns out I'm just not a big fan of Chief Wiggum. I really enjoyed The "Homer" and "Bart" book. But not this one. Maybe if you love Wiggum you'll love it. If you're not too fond of him then I wouldn't buy it.

Good for my collection.
Format: Hardcover
This was another quick and entertaining read. This instalment wasn't as enjoyable as some of the other books but it was still good. I'm glad to have it in my collection.
