From the earliest years of the American republic, Paris has provoked an extraordinary American literary response. An almost inevitable destination for writers and thinkers, Paris has been many things to many Americans: a tradition-bound bastion of the old world of Europe; a hotbed of revolutionary ideologies in politics and art; and a space in which to cultivate an openness to life and love thought impossible at home. Including stories, letters, memoirs, and reporting, Americans in Paris distills three centuries of vigorous, glittering, and powerfully emotional writing about the place that Henry James called “the most brilliant city in the world.”

American writers came to Paris as statesmen, soldiers, students, tourists, and sometimes they stayed as expatriates. This anthology ranges from the crucial early impressions of Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin to the latter-day reflections of writers as varied as James Baldwin, Isadora Duncan, and Jack Kerouac. Along the way we encounter the energetic travelers of the nineteenth century—Emerson, Mark Twain, Henry James—and the pilgrims of the twentieth: Gertrude Stein, F. Scott Fitzgerald, E. E. Cummings, Cole Porter, Henry Miller. Come along as Thomas Paine takes a direct and dangerous part in the French Revolution; Harriet Beecher Stowe tours the Louvre; Theodore Dreiser samples the sensual enticements of Parisian nightlife; Edith Wharton movingly describes Paris in the early days of World War I; John Dos Passos charts the gathering political storms of the 1930s; Paul Zweig recalls the intertwined pleasures of language and sex; and A. J. Liebling savors the memory of his culinary education in delicious detail.

Americans in Paris is a diverse and constantly engaging mosaic, full of revealing cultural gulfs and misunderstandings, personal and literary experimentation, and profound moments of self-discovery.

Gorgeous, but some big downsides
Color: Pink-upgrade, Size: 14 Inch
I wanted to like this bag SO BADLY. I’ve owned other backpacks by this brand and they have never disappointed. This one though, was a close miss. The color is absolutely GORGEOUS and I almost kept it for that reason alone. However, two big things made me return it: 1) The inside is no longer padded. If you had purchased older Golf Supags backpacks, the interior had padding to help the backpack keep its shape and not slouch over on the floor. That’s gone, so this one does flop over a little. But the big deal breaker: 2) holy cannoli, these straps are WAY too long! On the shortest length, the backpack is still hanging almost halfway down my back. It looks weird, but it’s also not ergonomically good for your back. The actual strap part (with padding) is so far back that the thin seatbelt adjustable material is the only thing on my shoulders. Super awkward. I’m not necessarily a small person either, so I shudder to think what this would look like on someone more petite than me.

Flimsy and cheap
Color: Apricot, Size: 14-Inch
This is the second time I bought a purse online... First was on temu ... Expected to be trash and it was... So I bought this one... And idk what's worse, the temu purse or this one.. only buying them in person from now on unless Its 100% obviously sturdy and of good quality. The fabric and entire purse itself is cheap thin fabric .. not only does it feel cheap it looks cheap. I'm not one to write comments but I'd return it if I wasn't so damn lazy... It feels like the play purses your parents would give you as a kid. Not worth the money. I guess it has pockets, but I feel like my things would be sitting on the floor even though my purse is a barrier and feels like my belongings are not protected in the slightest... Especially not a laptop as advertised.

Beautiful and Well Made
Color: Royal Blue, Size: Small
Remarkable and well made top. It fits perfectly, is super soft and of substantial fabric. The color (royal blue) is vibrant and looks like the picture. It is made and feels like a much more expensive top you would find in an upscale shop. It wears well and you are never hot, just wonderful.

Best white tshirt ever! Will have to buy more
Color: White, Size: Medium
Top is great, better than the expensive designer top I bought. Fabric is so very soft, not super thin and just the right size. I bought a med and it fit perfectly, just right under a jacket or separate. It’s pure white with some stretch if you want a. Lose fit.

Unbelievable shirt for the money!
Color: White, Size: Small
Soft and cozy yet sharp and finished. Would definitely highly recommend. Went back and bought two more. Comes out of the dryer without a wrinkle. The color on the brown is rich and looks good dressed up or down. Definitely a great T-shirt at a fantastic price.
