I have endeavored to present what I have said in a plain yet modest style, that the simplest may understand and the most refined he not offended. I have endeavored to present what I have said in a plain yet modest style, that the simplest may understand and the most refined he not offended.

The principal part of these lectures was first delivered before the mothers and daughters of the Gospel Trumpet Home. During the time that they were being delivered mention was made of it in the Gospel Trumpet, which brought several letters requesting that they be published. After due consideration the subject has been revised throughout and some valuable additions made. In the back part of the book will be found definitions of the scientific terms employed in this volume. To many this will be useless, but some will find it helpful.

With a humble prayer to God that this book may be an inspiration to the mothers and daughters who read it, in living nobler, purer lives, I am
