Published by Ash-Tree Press on 19th February 1999 and limited to 500 copies. The book comes in hardback grey cloth with silver writing on the spine, with 168 numbered pages. Cover illustrations by Jason C. Eckhardt. Introduction by Richard Dalby.

First published in 1921, Ghost Gleams is one of the most elusive titles in the genre of the classic supernatural tale; and the author of the collection's fifteen tales has long been a mysterious—even ghostly—figure, despite having been a prolific Victorian and Edwardian writer who was able to turn his hand to almost any subject required of him.

Born in 1861, William James Wintle established a name for himself as a prolific and versatile author, equally adept at writing a best-selling account of the Armenian massacre and a cookbook of Continental recipes. He was considered an expert on the British royal family, was a noted writer on the subject of natural history, and in 1899 became the major regular in-house contributor to the highly popular Harmsworth Magazine.

Towards the end of the Great War, Wintle became an Oblate in the Abbey of Caldey Island; and it was there, on Sunday evenings, that he told a series of ghost stories to the eight boys who attended the Abbey's school. The stories—which feature a range of other-worldly visitants, from haunted beds and vengeful ancestors to spectral cats and prehistoric animals—were later collected together and published as Ghost Gleams, with the author noting that 'the gruesome ones met with the best reception'. This first-ever reprint of Ghost Gleams includes a lengthy introduction by Richard Dalby, who presents the most complete biography of Wintle ever assembled, as well as a 1903 article about real ghosts, and an account of life on Caldey Island at the time Wintle was there, written by one of the 'eight dear boys' to whom Ghost Gleams is dedicated.

Contents: Introduction by Richard Dalby; 'The Red Rosary'; 'When Twilight Fell'; 'The House on the Cliff'; 'The Ghost at The Blue Dragon'; 'The Spectre Spiders'; 'The Footsteps on the Stairs'; 'The Chamber of Doom'; 'When Time Stood Still'; 'The Black Cat'; 'Father Thornton's Visitor'; 'The Horror of Horton House'; 'The Haunted House on the Hill'; 'The Voice in the Night'; 'The Light in the Dormitory'; 'The Watcher in the Mill'; 'Can You Explain It? True Stories of the Ghost World'; Afterword by Peter J. Wire.

Pros and cons at once
It smooths and brightens my skin, but it’s not very moisturizing, so I have to reapply it frequently. Expensive too

Excellent choice for a gentle daily lotion
I have dry, mature skin, so I’m always looking for a lotion that actually hydrates without feeling heavy or irritating. I’ve been using the Koji White Body Lotion and it’s been a really nice addition to my routine. The formula feels lightweight but still moisturizing enough for my dry skin. It absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave a sticky or greasy film, which I really appreciate. I like that it contains kojic acid and papaya extract. Over time my skin has looked a bit smoother and more even, and it definitely feels softer after applying. The lotion is pH balanced and free from parabens and artificial dyes, which makes it gentle enough for everyday use on my more mature, sensitive skin. Another thing I enjoy is the light, pleasant scent, it’s subtle and fresh without being overpowering. Overall, it keeps my skin feeling hydrated, nourished, and comfortable throughout the day, and I’ve had no irritation. It’s a good daily lotion if you want something moisturizing with skin brightening ingredients that still feels gentle.

Silky, Effective Body Lotion With Strong Scent
In the winter, my skin is prone to becoming very dry and flaky. I ordered this "Kojic Acid & Papaya Body Lotion - Exfoliating, Hydrating, Moisturizing, Skin Care for Sun-Damaged Skin" by Koji White hoping it could help keep my skin from feeling dry and itchy. I ordered this lotion in mid Dec 2025, and the bottle is labeled with a manufacturing date in late Oct 2025 and an expiration date of Oct 2028. I’d consider this a very fresh product. The pump works smoothly, and I didn’t have any trouble getting it to dispense lotion. The label lists Thailand as the country of manufacture. I also liked that the listing describes the product as vegan and free of animal testing. I’ve been vegetarian for about 30 years, so this matters to me. I’m aroma sensitive, and this lotion lists fragrance as one of the ingredients, which is always a gamble for me. I definitely detect tropical fruity notes, and papaya is listed in both the name and ingredient list. There’s also a noticeable floral scent. I don’t usually like floral fragrances, but the fruity and floral scents complement each other fairly well. Unfortunately, the scent is much stronger than I prefer and seems to linger. I really like how this lotion feels on my skin. It’s a little less creamy than I expected given how hydrating it is, but it applies smoothly and evenly. It absorbs quickly without leaving my skin feeling sticky or greasy. My skin feels hydrated and silky smooth after applying, and it’s made a noticeable difference in how the skin on my legs looks and feels. Unfortunately, I’ve only been able to use it on my legs when I’m wearing pants because the fragrance is too intense for me. I love the results and wish I could comfortably use it all over. Overall, I really like this lotion. It has everything I look for to help prevent dry winter skin. The only drawback for me is that it’s more heavily scented than I prefer. At the time of my order, the 250 ml (8.45 oz) bottle cost $20. Given the quality and performance, that feels like a good value. For people who enjoy more strongly scented products, this lotion could be an excellent choice. Since fragrance preference is so personal, I won’t be deducting any stars from my rating.
