Poor blood flow in the veins of the legs, known as chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), is a common health problem, particularly with advancing age. It can cause many painful and unpleasant symptoms including leg pain, swelling, itchiness, varicose veins, night-time leg cramping and fatigue. More serious consequences of CVI include leg ulcers and deep vein thrombosis. The prevalence of chronic venous insufficiency varies greatly by age and region, but can affect up to 40% of women and 17% of men in some areas. On average CVI affects about 10% of the population, and about 15-25% in individuals over the age of 55 years.

Natural Symptom Relief

A number of natural ingredients have been shown to be effective for relieving the painful and uncomfortable symptoms of CVI. VeinSense contains a carefully chosen mixture of natural herbs and extracts to reduce pressure and improve blood flow in the legs.

Horse Chesnut: Extracts of the Horse Chestnut seed have been used in Europe since the 19th century for the treatment of chronic venous insufficiency, varicose veins, and hemorrhoids. Horse Chestnut extract improves vein health by helping to alleviate water retention and to increase the contraction of elastin fibres in the vein walls.⁴Supplementation with horse chestnut has been investigated in more than 17 clinical trials with positive results. Studies have shown that horse chestnut as effective as prescription medications for reducing pain and leg volume in people with CVI.⁴

Diosmin and Hesperidin: Diosmin and Hesperidin are two natural citrus bioflavonoids. Both have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity and support over-all cardiovascular health, in addition to reducing the appearance of varicose veins and spider veins. Diosmin is considered to be a vascular-protective agent and has been used to treat CVI, varicose veins and other circulatory problems.⁵ A paucity of hesperidin in the diet has been linked with abnormal capillary leakiness as well as pain in the extremities causing aches, weakness and leg cramps at night.⁶ A number of human studies have shown that supplementation with these two citrus extracts improved symptoms of CVI and helps to speed up healing of CVI related leg ulcers at all stages of the disease.^5,7

Butcher’s Broom: Butcher’s Broom helps to repair the walls of blood vessels and capillaries. It also acts as a gentle non-stimulant laxative and diuretic to help take pressure off of the affected areas. The vascular effects of Butcher’s Broom are accompanied with an additional ability to help the body relieve and remove blockages, making it ideal for the management of thrombosis and treating phlebitis.⁸ Treatment of CVI with Butcher’s Broom has been shown to be a safe and effective way to reduce leg volume and decrease other symptoms like heavy legs and tingling sensations.⁸

Suggested Usage
