Yet around the world millions of orphaned and vulnerable children need permanent homes, and thousands of American and European families are eager to take them in. Many government officials, international bureaucrats, and social commentators claim these adoptions are not in the best interests of the child. They claim that adoption deprives children of their birth culture, threatens their racial identities, and even encourages widespread child trafficking. Celebrity adopters are publicly excoriated for stealing children from their birth families. This book argues that opposition to adoption ostensibly based on the well-being of the child is often a smokescreen for protecting national pride. Concerns about the harm done by transracial adoption are largely inconsistent with empirical evidence. As for trafficking, opponents of international adoption want to shut it down because it is too much like a market for children. But this book offers a radical challenge to this view--that is, what if instead of trying to suppress market forces in international adoption, we embraced them so they could be properly regulated? What if the international system functioned more like open adoption in the United States, where birth and adoptive parents can meet and privately negotiate the exchange of parental rights? This arrangement, the authors argue, could eliminate the abuses that currently haunt international adoption. The authors challenge the prevailing wisdom with their economic analyses and provocative analogies from other policy realms. Like it so much. I've got a second one

Liked it so much. I've got a second one. This tissue box cover is so elegant and beautiful that I bought another one. The bottom snaps in place very nice and the threading around the box is beautifully done. The brown color goes very well with all of our oil rub bronze pictures in the house. It is very elegant and I just love it.

These are gorgeous and match my decor. For some reason Kleenex boxes come in the most hideous, random prints and colors. I have these in every room, and they make the house look so much more classy and put-together.

Love this remote holder!

Very sturdy! Holds all my remotes…for bed, TV, light, fan, and flashlights. I am ALWAYS misplacing my remotes, so this item is a sanity saver. I put my remotes in a certain order: bed, TV, Light, fan and lastly two rechargeable flashlights. That way, even in the dark, I can find what I need. Yes, I’m older than dirt. This is a great looking, sturdy remote holder. You need it. And if you’re of a “certain age” and you misplace stuff you MUST have this remote holder!

This remote holder is great! 5 sections to place things. I have room for 3 remotes & 2 additional things. I discovered it’s the perfect place to store my glasses. I only use this pair to watch tv at night, but previously I could never find where I left them. No worries about that now! My nightstand is way less cluttered now & I don’t have to worry about my dogs ruining my glasses or running off with the remote!

These really help keep us tidy!! The material is nice and it's not so big that it looks cluttered. It's located on a small end table between my husband and myself. It holds nail clippers, 2 remotes, pens, scissors, ear buds, and a charger. I bought another to have on the other end table.
