John Board was the polo correspondent to The Times for nearly 30 years. At one time a tea planter in Ceylon he also served in the Army, was a keen sportsman (he also wrote on golf as an understudy to Bernard Darwin) and was a very skilled polo player.

In addition to his many accomplishments, he was a talented draughtsman and equestrian artist, who was particularly adept at capturing horses in motion (especially polo players in mid-charge on the field of play). He is described as having "a natural ability for painting the polo pony at speed and catching the fine points of the game".

In 1956 John Board wrote and illustrated 'Polo' [Faber & Faber], which became a standard work on the subject. The picture here of an 'action-shot' of a polo player making a 'near side neck shot' is probably a study for that publication.

Board wrote and illustrated a number of other equestrian books including:-

"Horse and Pencil", Christopher Johnson, 1950

"Horses And Horsemen", Andrew George Elliot, 1952

"From Point to Point", Christopher Johnson, 1953

"A Year With Horses", Hodder & Stoughton, 1954

He illustrated various works for other authors including "Training The Racehorse" for Lt.-Col. P.D. Stewart D.S.O. [Hurst & Blackett Ltd, 1969].

A lot to think on!
Format: Kindle
I've been world building for several years now and thought I'd pick up this book just to see someone else's thoughts. This book really brought up some fun points I've skipped and gave me a lot of tools, can't wait to read the next one!

Very useful resource
Format: Paperback
I reference this book often when creating new characters, monsters and even animals and plants. The book has lots of interesting and useful tips and insights that I've found very useful. Its also organized in a manner that is easy to just go to the sections you need.

A fantastic resource for building your world
Format: Kindle
A fantastic resource for building your world. This book focuses specifically on the life in your created world, with lots of useful advice on fleshing out the deities, different humanoid species, animals, monsters, and undead. I'm very much looking forward to the release of the other two books that will follow on from this one.

Informative, but feeling like book was created to promote other things...
Format: Kindle
There is some useful information in this book. Some possible story prompts and creative ideas for what a person can do with their work. Problem I find with constant mention of the authors books and what is in them. Makes it feel as I am reading that the author is advertising their other works to through the guise that they are teaching you about world building. There is still some little gems in the book. Just the motives for the creation of this book may have less about teaching and more about advertising.

Excellent source for the aspiring fantasy writer. Helps breakdown world building into easy to understand sections allowing you to focus on the parts you need and ignore the rest
