ڈاکٹر Aqeela Javed صاحبہ مجلسِ فروغِ اردو ادب قطر کی دعوت پر سلور جوبلی مشاعرے اور عالمی فروغ اردو ادب ایوارڈ کی تقریب میں خصوصی شرکت کے لیے گزشتہ سال دوحہ تشریف لائیں اور ہمیں فیضیاب کیا۔ آپ کی نگرانی میں بہاء الدین زکریا یونیورسٹی کے طلبا نے “اردو زبان و ادب کے فروغ میں مجلس فروغ اردو ادب کی خدمات” کے عنوان پر درسی مقالے لکھے جو کتابچے کی شکل میں شائع ہوئے۔ یہاں دوحہ میں یونیورسٹی کے شعبۂ اردو کی جانب سے مجلس کی ۲۵ سالہ ادبی اور لسانی خدمات کے اعتراف میں ڈاکٹر قاضی عابد اور ڈاکٹر عقیلہ جاوید نے مجلس کے روحِ رواں جناب محمد عتیق Mohammad Atiq کو یادگاری شیلڈ بھی عطا کی۔
ڈاکٹر عقیلہ بشیر صاحبہ ایک روایتی مشرقی خاتون ہیں اور زبان و بیان کی مسلسل خدمت نے ان کی عام گفتگو کو بھی شیریں اور پُرلطف بنا دیا ہے۔ آپ بلاتکلف اور سادہ کلام کرتی ہیں اور باتوں باتوں میں کسی مفکر یا بڑے شاعر یا اہم ادیب کے کسی قول یا شعر کا حوالہ دے کر عام سی بات کو بہت خاص بنا دیتی ہیں۔
بہاء الدین زکریا یونیورسٹی ملتان کے شعبۂ اردو کی متحرک شخصیت ہیں اور اردو زبان کے حوالے سے ملک اور بیرون ملک اسفار کرچکی ہیں بلکہ ترکی کی ایک یونیورسٹی میں بحیثیت استاد اردو کی روشنی بکھیر چکی ہیں۔
ڈاکٹر صاحبہ نے ازراہِ شفقت منتخب مضامین پر مشتمل اہم کتاب “اردو نثر کا اسلوبیاتی مطالعہ” عنایت کی جس میں انہوں نے اردو نثر کی تمام اسلوبیاتی جہتوں کو واضح کرنے والے اہم ترین مضامین کو نگینوں کی طرح جمع کردیا ہے جو بالخصوص یونیورسٹی سطح کے طلبا کے لیے انتہائی مفید ہیں۔
مضامین کو دو حصوں میں تقسیم کیا گیا ہے۔۔ حصۂ اول میں صرف اسلوب کی تعریف، تشکیل اور اس کے ارتقا سے بحث کی گئی ہے اور تین اہم مقالے پیش کیے گئے ہیں۔ یہ مضامین بالترتیب نثار احمد فاروقی، منظر عباس نقوی اور احتشام حسین کے ذہنِ رسا کی دین ہیں۔ کتاب کے دوسرے حصے میں بارہ مضامین ہیں جن میں سے ہر مضمون میں اردو نثر کے کسی ایک شاہکار یا کسی ایک بڑے نثرنگار پر بحث کی گئی ہے۔ ان مضامین میں ایک ڈاکٹر عقیلہ جاوید کا بھی ہے جس میں انہوں نے خواجہ حسن نظامی کو عوامی انشاپرداز کے زاویے سے دیکھا ہے اور مدلل گفتگو کی ہے۔ اُن کے علاوہ حماد رسول، ڈاکٹر اسلم انصاری ، ڈاکٹر سلامت سندیلوی اور ڈاکٹر انوار احمد جیسے باکمال اہلِ قلم کے بہترین مقالے شامل ہیں۔
ڈاکٹر عقیلہ جاوید نے اس کتاب کو ترتیب دے کر کالج کے اساتذہ اور یونیورسٹی کے طلبا کے لیے ایک بڑی خدمت انجام دی ہے۔

A thoughtful book to normalize tears
Format: Hardcover
I'm a child life specialist I have heard many parents and providers tell kids (and teens) to "stop crying" or "there's nothing to cry about" or some other variation of that hurtful phrase. I now work with children who have a parent with a serious illness and those experiencing grief. Why Do We Cry? is an amazing resource that is relevant to the majority of situations experienced by kids in my practice. It is beautifully illustrated with images that reflect the emotion in the written content. This book embraces the many reasons people cry without overstepping a boundary by trying to explain or justify the feelings. I love the subtlety of normalizing a variety of feelings and the gentle truth that sometimes we cry without knowing why. I highly recommend this book!

5 Stars!
Format: Hardcover
Mario asks his mother, “Why do we cry?” and she goes on to tell him all the different reasons that we do cry. Some of the reasons are a bit metaphorical, and might be harder for younger children to understand, but the illustrations help in those cases. (The book is aimed for 3-7 year olds, but I think the story is more fitting for ages 5 and up). The illustrations correspond well with the words on the page.
The story lets children know that it is ultimately ok to cry. I feel that the book showcasing a boy asking about crying is wonderful as some boys are told NOT to cry.
A few added pluses:
There is also a lesson that scientifically explains about tears so children can understand some of the varying reasons that tears exist. There is also a small interactive section with activities dealing with tears that will help children express their imagination.

Learn why we cry in this great kids book!

"Some days we cry because we call out for a hug but all we get back is an echo."
Why Do We Cry? begins with a boy asking his mother why we cry. There are many answers to such a question and the mother helps the boy explore the many reasons why we may shed tears.
As the mother explains the reasons why we cry, the illustrations become a bit surreal, to show the emotions and feelings associated with crying, from sadness to anger to grief. The mother compares and contrasts, all the while weaving a poetic story about her own life or memories and emotions.
This book reminds us that it is okay to cry, that crying can be a release, a way to heal, or let go. It helps us understand the difference between emotions and how they affect us.
There's an educational spread at the end of the book that teaches us the different types of tears, one of which--emotional tears-- is featured in this book, what they are made of, and even how much they weigh!

A Beautiful & Informative Exploration of Tears and Feelings

A nonjudgemental and supportive exploration of the reasons we cry accompanied by imaginative and thoughtful art. Beautiful and informative, the final two pages include scientific information on tears to complement the emotional context of the main part of the story. Suitable for ages 3 to 7.

It's okay to cry
Format: Kindle
This picture book beautifully normalizes the reasons why children (and adults) may cry. It passes no judgment and does not belittle. Rather, some of the many reasons for tears are described; these include anger, sadness and happiness among others. Crying is seen as a normal response to being human. At the end of the book, there is additional information, some of it scientific, about tears. The book is sensitively illustrated with gorgeous pictures that enhance the text. This would be a great title to share with a child you know.
