X as in crossroads, a crossroads of moods, atmospheres, and genres. This year's annual rendezvous with Massimo Salvagnini, his saxophone, and his band features a more pronounced than usual encounter with Brazilian music, especially the rhythms and moods of bossa nova. What better marriage, then, than with the captivating voice of Patrizia Laquidara? "Amor em Paz" and "Fotografia," the second and penultimate tracks on the CD, are there to support this album as a linchpin, which then develops into moments that are also different, in which the leader's strong and distinctive personality emerges more than usual, accompanied by the usual talented Gibellini on guitar, Facchinetti on drums, and Panagin on double bass. And so X also represents the intersection of the leader's soft, persuasive soul with his more free, restless, and improvisational side.
