A Little Salvation: Poems Old and NewThis new collection from acclaimed novelist and poet Judson Mitcham features poems from the last twenty five years, including forty new works and poems from his previously published collections, Somewhere in Ecclesiastes (1991) and This April Day (2003). Wise, witty, and deceptively plainspoken, Mitcham's poems show how the moments that truly save us that make us human are necessarily the most fleeting. It is up to us, he reminds us, to create meaning

This new collection from acclaimed novelist and poet Judson Mitcham features poems from the last twenty-five years, including forty new works and poems from his previously published collections, Somewhere in Ecclesiastes (1991) and This April Day (2003). Wise, witty, and deceptively plainspoken, Mitcham's poems show how the moments that truly save us--that make us human--are necessarily the most fleeting. It is up to us, he reminds us, to create meaning from those moments, and in doing so to create our own salvation.

The transitory nature of human experience is both the boon and the bane of the existence of the speakers in these poems, and every poem seems to recognize its own temporality, trying to find meaning rather than a definitive answer to the questions it raises. The tone of these poems combines a strong sense of humor with a pervasive feeling of loss, both celebrating and mourning that "a true note is still so hard to hit." These voices revel in the human condition even as they are often saddened by it.

While Mitcham's background and settings are distinctly southern, his interests extend far beyond the regional. He intimately understands the problems and the people of the South but recognizes that these are, above all, human problems and human beings. His poems evoke Flannery O'Connor, Otis Redding, the Bible, and the Baptist Church, but they also respond to Walt Whitman, Wallace Stevens, and the death of Jacques Derrida.

This home bar looks absolutely amazing in my space and adds such a nice, stylish touch to the room. It was very easy to put together the instructions were simple and everything fit together perfectly. The quality is great, it feels sturdy, and it really elevates the overall look of my home. I’ve already gotten compliments on it, and I couldn’t be happier with this purchase. Highly recommend if you’re looking for something functional and good-looking!

The cart looks really nice with the glass. It took some time to assemble. Nothing too difficult, just took time to screw everything in. All pieces arrived and the glass was packaged well so it wouldn’t break. Perfect size and a great price for the product. Highly recommend!

Tips for assemble at the end! I have to say, for as affordable as this piece is it sure is beautiful, easy to assemble, and functional. I am really happy with my purchase. I bought this as a surprise for my husband. He has a massive bourbon & whiskey collection that overtakes his entire bar, and this along with a new liquor cabinet was just what he needed to disperse some of his collection aesthetically. Be careful upon assembly, paint can chip if you screw the hardware in too tight. Also, when you go to put the suction cups in for the glass make sure you counter the weight from underneath the little flap with your free hand as you’re putting it on bc if you don’t, you’ll push so hard that the piece you’re pushing the suction cup into to get it to pop on properly will bend and break. I pushed a little hard on a couple of mine, but they bent back into place. Just assemble with a light hand.
